Performance chips

I have a 645ci, and I was wondering if I put a chip in my car, would I have to change anything under the hood?

where r u getting a preformance chip from? Do you have any info on how much improvement you get, HP gain, Boost, let me know

As far as I know, You have to first tell the people who r putting the chip in all the info about what your car is, for example if you added exhaust, cold air intake, etc...
Then they program the chip to those specks

Most people just go with Dinan, and you get the car flashed at the dealer.

It's a good idea to go for an intake and exhaust if you are going for a software upgrade. Don't expect miracles though, maybe 20 hp max. The 6er has a well tuned NA motor out of the box so it's not like a turbo where you can get 100hp for $1,000 in upgrades.

Are you saying if you add the software upgrade along with exhaust and intakes you will only get another 20 HP? Or does the software alone give you 20 more HP? WOW, I certainly would be disappointed to spend that kind of money for only 20 extra ponies.

I bought a 2006 650i about 2 months ago and I'm absolutely in love with the car. 13,400 miles on the car when I bought it and it's in pristine condition. Some added HP would be cool, but not a necessity. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

the program upgrade would give you somewhere about 16-18 hp... if you have other things lke exhaust and cold air intake if would make a bigger improvement...
I got my 645 back 5 years ago, maybe more but fixed it up past year or so,,,, always had rims but was afraid upgrades might void warranty,
Best result, nice exhaust... the driving becomes 100X more exciting... ohh man... i will do a recording of my exhaust and put on U tube for all... cold air intake is really cool also

Thanks Black Bird, Do you mind if I ask what it costs you for the intake and exhaust? Did you go with Dinan parts? If not whose parts did you use?

AFE cold air intake from Bauv Auto... about 400 or so cant remember
Eisenmann exhaust $1850.... sounds sick
very expaensive exhaust but i shopped nearly a year...
took all resonators out to make it sound good, without resonators out it is a waste of money
Im going for the chip upgrade from Dinan this week,
i'll let u know how it improves.... excited myself to find out

I have my heart set on an Eisenmann or a Meisterschaft as well! Did you get the Eisenmann race or sport?

Def the RACE... sport makes no sound, almost like what you got now... You will be disappointed with the exhaust itself, take all 3 resonators out then you will feel your heart racing... Gorgeouse Dual exhaust....Hmmmmm

NO, exhaust gives about 17 HP, intake another 5-7, chip is about 17 hp... getting chip done this Friday, will see how it improvs'

BlackBird, Thanks for your input. Was there a noticeable difference in power when you had the exhaust system installed or does it just sound better? I'm curious about the difference in what you and Yorgi are saying. Yorgi says 20HP gain maximum and your numbers are almost double that. I would be very happy half way between the two and gain 30 HP.

Yo Black Bird when are you going to put your exhaust sound on Youtube? I really want to hear it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do my exhaust and intake. Please let me know how your Chip upgrade goes.

I would say all together u def will get 30hp doing this stuff.... the exhaust you will def have that free flow feeling once you take resonators out...

new to site...was told at dealership with all 3 upgrades suggested..exhaust, intake and chip could expect between 35 and 40 addl hp...but cost was going to be 3 g's
Question i have is as to brake pads...ceramic v standard...my wheels collect dust like a magnet...any reason not to go ceramic and while doing so am springing for new hubs..any suggestions?

1chants - I would spend an hour or more cleaning the brake dust off my wheels with standard brakes...only to drive to the store/back home to find brake dust....Went with ceramic about 2 yrs ago, and the brake dust prob is 0....nonexsistent. They were a little more but worth it, for me.
