Switching out RFT....

My Dealer just called me and told me my car will arrive in few days........

I'm so excited.... lol no worry MP and Star.... I will take pics to share with you all lol

but I want to switch out the RFT to Michelin super sports.... but the guys from costco told me

I can't put normal tires on BMW stock rims... because they are design for RFT... is that ture??

has any one put normal tires on the stock rim ??

THEY may not be able to, as it takes a special machine to dismount/mount RFT on a rim. IOW, if they don't have the proper machine, it can take a huge amount of manual labor with the risk of damaging the rim when you do not have the proper machine. So, some places won't touch RFT for that reason. A RFT hugs the rim better so that it doesn't peel off when not properly inflated. And, with the stiffer sidewalls, is a bear to take off without the right machine.

Had is right. It need a right tool to do the job. You don t want Costco to damage your rim.

Had BMW swap mine in 1 week and bought the continental flat tire kit to keep in the trunk (held nicely in place by the strap on the side of the trunk). I went with 18" Primacy's FWIW.

No idea about the tires. It almost sounds blasphemous, but I'm driving around on my stock tires happy-as-a-clam.

I'm pretty happy with my Dunlop DSST run flats (I think that is what they are). Of course this being my first BMW and first car with run flats, I don't really know the difference.

I know, I kinda felt like - ignorance is bliss - when I wrote what I did, so maybe we don't know what we're missing, dmunz.

Already place an order on Michelin super sport, gonna change it out after I get the car,

Hi good luck and definitely post pictures when you get it done.

I am comfortable with our local dealer working on rims/tires as I know that (1) the tires will be balanced properly and (2) the rims won't get damaged in the process as other folks mentioned. The issues I am encountering is that the dealer does not support non-BMW approved tires and refuses to install them.

Has anyone gotten a pushback from the dealer, when it comes to installing non OEM tires? Is this a "standard" practice?
