Mein Auto: 2009 750i | 2010 X5
I sold my 2001 x5 in 2010 with 203,000 miles on the clock without any engine issues at all. It was replaced with a 2010 X5 that now has 70,000 miles and my 2003 X5 has 139,000 miles.

2002 X5 4.4L I have 128,000 miles (206000km) which puts me in the top 5 in this forum so far. Great vehicle just regular maintenance and an odd repair here and there. I'll drive mine into the ground, should be about 300,000 miles or more hopefully.
I agree not to many people are driving their X5's much.

97k 2003 3.01 Automatic

Bought it used when it was already 7 years old. I've had several problems with it that were more annoyances than something really major, knock on wood:

Radiator fan - Crook auto mechanic ripped me off with inflated repair bill. Took it to my reputable mechanic and not only was everything repaired correctly but at a reasonable price.

Driver side door handle - Common with these models. Had it repaired for $300

Passenger side door handle - Debating on whether to shell out another $300 to fix

Coolant recovery tank - Fixed it myself

A/C & Heat - Replaced Radiator fan and final stage resister. Fixed the A/C problem, heat problem still remains

Auto lock, unlock - Over time, the auto lock/unlock has stopped working on driver side door
I now have to unlock the driver side door with the key

Brakes - Brake pedal suddenly sank to the floor last week. Taking it to get checked tomorrow

Like I said, nothing really major and it has never left me stranded anywhere.

X5 miles

2005 X5 3.0 with 155,000 miles on it - bought it during the past year from the original owner and used by our au pair (nanny) - not planning to keep it too much longer, but it is surprisingly solid (although I believe a wheel sensor must have failed recently)

2011 X5 3.5d has just shy of 30k mi

4.4i mileage

Just hit 98888 today so should get to 100,000 about Christmas time its a 4.4i E53 which hit the road in 2000. Changed the original battery last week & the gearbox has gone really smooth so low current obviously confuses the ECU. Runs like a dream now over 99k & still rock solid

X5 Miles

2001 X5 4.4i 175,000 miles, replaced valve cover gasket, condenser fan, brakes & rotors and it is currently down for the alternator replacement....it has just been to cold to tackle right now. I bought it with 166k miles, it had been well taken care of and was running very strong until alternator issues popped up. Overall I am very happy with it and plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off.....lol

Mein Auto: 2002 X5 4.6is
'02 X5 4.6is, just crossed 40K miles.

Owned it just over a year putting on about 4K miles, it's a great vehicle. Only minor issues thus far, a minor leak with a power steering hose (that was uncovered on the PPI), torn CV boot and the final stage resistor went out on me.

I've done a lot of preventive maintenance, put on new tires all around and replaced all fluids when I got it, just put on new front brake rotors and pads a few months ago due to my own paranoia (I always swap brakes, tires and fluids on any used car I buy).

I don't drive much (8-10 miles/day) so do hook it up to the battery tender every few weeks in the winter. In the warmer months this isn't usually necessary.

2003 x5 3.0i has 142k now. Runs strong but likes oil.... needs oil filter housing gasket and transmission shift lever seal. Just had a minor coolant leak and it was the passenger side temp sensor small gasket seal. I do love my X5!!!!

2001 X5 3.0 - Bought in April 2004 with 42,000 miles. NOW - 204,000

Work - Both front axles (CV joints went bad), all front end parts (they wear), brake rotors and pads X 3, water pump X 2, alternator, window regulator (front and rear, 1 each), DISA valve (a few weeks ago, changed transmission fluid and filter X 3 (last time about 2 months ago), 02 sensors, radiator expansion tank.

Seems like a lot but I've had it almost 10 years, have done most of the work myself and the parts total is probably less than $3,000. Paying someone else to do all this work would have easily cost $10,000 more just for labor (easy). Many thanks to this site for great info.

P.S. Runs as strong and shifts as good as the day I got it (or nearly so). I get about 19 MPG around town and about 22 on trips (but that's cruising at 80 MPH +/-). She will still easily hit 110 and be smooth as silk. Got to love them even if you have to work to keep them up.
