Haha, chill dude...

I'm just kidding around, but I'm on my phone too! That's no excuse...

Any-who, check out the LA, SD and surrounding areas for a deal on an M3... You're bound to find one of you're patient enough...

This guy knows precisely nothing about BMWs and you guys are recommending that he buy a $4k M3? Sheesh. Talk about a disaster waiting to happen.

I got my m3 in Perris. You have way more options in your area than what I had. Im in Bakersfield and its rare for an m3 to show up on craigslist here.

Welcome to the fest!!!

Get a 325 or 328, if it was me I'd like a 328 because it already has the zf M3 tranny...but then again you can always swap one into your 325. Also consider if you want a sedan or coupe. I love my coupe but sometimes wish I had the sedan because I could have my passengers go in and out with ease.

Just like these guys mentioned you won't find an M3 in your price range. Even if you managed to track one down for 4k, you would have to spend about 1-3k give or take in maintenance to make sure it won't break down you within a couple of weeks after purchase.

Good luck with your search, and welcome to the fest.

I forgot to mention that the 1-3k give or take maintenance applies to any older bmws like ours..so be prepared to spend money on top of purchase unless the previous owner provides you with recent maintenance records which is sometimes not gonna happen...

The 1-3k is depending on how far you want to take the maintenance, you will have to do a cooling overhaul, tune up, fluids, check brakes, tires and so on. So in some cases it can just be a few hundred to get it in smooth driving condition.

well thats always the open question.

Do you want M3 for the look? any E36 can put on an M3 bumper cover

I like the M3 engine in the 318 shell. Insurance company is none the wiser. Best rates especially for the 4 door. But reality is M3 had a number of chassis upgrades over regular E36s. and now a days even they are not super expensive to buy.

Have you stopped to investigate what kind of money is involved with "tuning" a BMW engine? Unfortunately, it isn't like tuning an SBC.

SBC = small block chevy. In other words, the most tunable engine in history.
