Trans. Failsafe Prog.
Hi all,
I have an 05 BMW X5 4.4 with 82000 miles. I left my radio on for about 20 mins and the truck didn't start. I had to jump start it, a few minutes later the warning sign appeared " Trans Failsafe Prog. Does anybody know what's the problem? Note that I changed my battery last year, ( BMW battery)...Thank you. Last edited by lanass2; 06-13-2012 at 11:11 AM. |

Good day,
I did the same thing but I didn't get any problems when I put the charger on it... I think my battery voltage didn't drop far enough to cause issues with the electronics (they don't like anything less than 11.5V)... I would pull the battery terminal for 20 or so mins to reboot the computers... Be sure to turn your steering wheel, lock to lock to clear any sensor alarms... I have to do that on my 02... Good luck!! Cheers!! |

This sounds exactly like the problem I had. It is the alternator. I had mine replaced twice already and I have similar mileage. It will go into trans fail prog bec its a safemode when the voltage goes down. I had to drive back to dealer like that. Have them check your alternator.
