As far as I know, the VM versions can not be updated.

With ISTA/D, I don't think 2.30 vs. 2.32 matters much.

Now with ISTA/P, it matters.

I played with the ISSS.vmdk file. The image file is a Disk made up of 3 Partitions. You can mount the ISSS.vmdk image in WinMount, and then have a choice of which partition. In partition 3 (Disk Index 2), the uncompressed PSDZdata lies here:

\apps\ISTA-P\BMW\Services\data\ecudata\psdzdata

All the CAFD files are here:

\apps\ISTA-P\BMW\Services\data\ecudata\psdzdata\swe\cafd

I tested it, and I can copy CAFD files to and from the image in this fashion.

So, I don't see why you couldn't replace all the 46.3 PSDZdata with the 47.5 PSdZData in the ISTA/P VM Image.

Yes, that is what I wrote after playing with the ISTA/P VM, and learning the file structure.

However, I only tested it with the some of the PSdZData to verify that the VM could be edited and written to. I never took the full PSdZData into the VM, let alone the full ISTA/P, which would be ten times more complicated than just the PSdZData.

Most people I know that have ISTA/P VM, are always buying newer ISTA/P VM's. They also sell a native version for more money that can be updated with DVD's, but I think it is quite expensive.

For me, I have had no use for ISTA/P. I use E-Sys for everything. You can alter your VO, VO Code, FDL Code (which you can't in ISTA/P), Flash Firmware, and import FSC Codes all with E-Sys. So, the only thing I use the ISTA/P DVD's for is to rip the PSdZData from the .jetarch files so I can turnaround and use it with E-Sys.

In addition, with ISTA/P, you need expensive ICOM or ICOM Clone Interface, or ICOM Emulator with ENET, although the latter is limited in functionality.

So, I guess it begs the question of why bother with all the expense and trouble of ISTA/P? What do you plan to use it for?

3.22.5. You can't flash with 3.18.4.

Is that why you wanted ISTA/P?

I think you need at least E-Sys 3.22 for flashing. If the KIS/SVT Target I-Step (shipment) is grayed out, and you can not selected the proper I-Step (shipment), then you need a newer E-Sys.

I have Skype on my cell phone, but it only works on the Verizon Wireless network, and right now I am in Europe on business, so I am roaming on Vodafone in Paris at the moment.

So, no Skype until I return to the states.

I have 3.22.5, and it works with HU_CIC and KOMBI, so I assume it works with the rest.

Hi Shawn,
Thank you very much for the PM and the link.
In another post you were talking about a guide on how to flash the control modules using esys.
Do you mind sending me that also?

Thanks

Karl

Yes, but it is not suitable for release yet. It is close, and we have successfully flashed ECU's, but we did brick a CIC unit about 3 weeks ago, and we would like to better understand what went wrong there, and update the Guide if needed before publishing it.
