Z4 Tire Swap

I've got a 2010 328i and a 2003 Z4 3.0, both w/sport packages and staggered set-up. Both cars have the exact same tire size (225-40R-18 front, and 255-35R-18 rear) and wear RFTs. The Z4 needs new tires. I want to take the opportunity to replace the tires on the 328 with non-RFTs (daily driver) and move the RFTs on the 328 to the Z4 thus putting new shoes on both cars for the price of one set of tires. My only concern is that the wheel styles on both cars are different. Any reason I shouldn't be able to make the swap since the tires sizes are the exact same? Thanks.

The hub of the rim can have a different offset even though the rim itself is the same size. I'm not sure what the offset is on your 328. Worst case if it's a different offset you could run spacers. I'm running h&r spacers up front and I've been pretty happy with them so far

Are you swapping rims also?

If not, no problem.

If so, there are possible issues with hub diameter (should not be a problem) and offset, as has been pointed out.

IIRC when I was shopping for autocross wheels I was killing myself trying to find wheels with a suitable offset for the Z4. I think the 328 offset won't work on the Z4 but the Z4 may work on the 328. The offset is stamped on the inside of the wheel usually with a E followed by a number, like E43, indicating 43 millimeters. Anyway if it was me I would swap them and see what worked, give them a spin and see if they rub, if it doesnt work, you'll have to dismount, remount and balance 8 tires. Let us know how it works out, good luck.

Thanks guys. I guess I should have stipulated in the OP that I'm not planning to swap the wheels, only the tires. Since all my tires are exactly the same size, I'm assuming the tires from the 328 will fit the wheels of the Z4.

Tire swap should be no problem, like you said they are the same size, just demount and remount and away you go.
