Lightbulb What is the price of a new water pump on a 2006 325i?

Hello All! I don't know if this still occurs, but as a woman I don't want to be taken advantage because I appear to not know what I am talking about regarding cars.

Today I was driving to work and my consol displayed: 'Drive moderately to cool engine temperature.' I figured my coolant is low or the water pump is going bad. The coolant looked fine, so could it be anything other than the water pump? If it is the water pump, what is the approximate cost of parts and labor for a 2006 325i going to be? Having an approximate cost will help me when I get quotes from around the area so I am not taken advantage of.

Thank you for all your help!

Probably another $500 in labor, depending on the shops labor rate. It'll take a few hours to get the old pump out and the new one in. Add a few shop supplies in addition...I'd presume $1,200 at the dealer, bit cheaper at an indy.

Others can confirm, but I think if they are already in there taking the pump out, it might be a good idea to replace the thermostat and housing, no?

Mine was just under $1K at the dealer. I recall having seen quotes both higher and lower in other past threads. (I don't think that included thermostat which had already croaked on me a year or so earlier.)

souds about right around 1k. you will for sure need to replace the water pump and thermostat. i would check with any local dealers and indys to find best price. i also wouldnt recommend driving it anymore because you can risk further damage to your engine. so add more money for a tow. good luck. i know a guy who might get you a deal on the parts if your interested. just message me.

My indy shop quoted $1000 for thermostat, water pump, hoses on my 330i. Local stealerships (less conveniently located) quoted $1300-1500 though I am sure they will throw in a loaner. Still a bit steep as Hertz local is only $17/day.

I got a "guy" that'll do it for $600.00 parts included. The most you should pay is for the waterpump if it's the issue and $100.00 labor. I'd do it for free for you just to stick it to the "MAN"!!!...and enlighten a fellow BMW enthusiast. Women should not pay more than us trollers and probably less as we just have much better general car knowledge. Just my thoughts.

You have good responses and no doubt you've Googled to confirm. But that you posted tells us that you don't know.

So. Would you like to? As a Tool Girl you'll learn much, and this is a weekend project anyone can do. Tool Gals, btw, are very popular....

Hmm... I think anthrogirl has long ago resolved the issue because her post was from June 2012, which this thread was revived by Boraxo...

I always used to use ECS tuning before I started working at a BMW/Mini performance shop. Now I get the shops wholesale discount
