Windshield Wipers - E65 vs. F01

New to the forum here. Kind of stupid subject. But I'm sure most have noticed that BMW did away with the articulating passenger side windshield wiper that was used in the E65 and E38. I was sort of disappointed because not only did you get really good visibility around the edge of the passenger side windshield, but they also looked really good wiping the windshield IMO.

I know its not a really big deal. But, does anyone know why they got rid of them? Cut costs? Windshield shape? I would of liked to see them in the new BMW models, it would of been just a really nice little touch.

So which wiper system do you like better. E65 or F01? Are the F01 wipers an improvement? I noticed they did the same thing with the new 5 and 6 series.

We had a 2007 750Li...and now I have a 2012 7 and also had a 2010 7. For sure, the wipers were better on the last generation 7 Series. It is hands down due to cost. Look at Mercedes-Benz....they had for decades those awesome uni-wipers, with the articulating motor. That thing was so powerful and effective, you could feel the car move! Now, Mercedes has the same cheapo wipers as BMW. With cars, everything is about cost cutting, sadly!! The F01 wipers work just fine, but they are just cheaper and not as good as older BMWs. Such is life!!

New wipers look much less substantial, but the bracketless technology results in less streaking.
On the flip side, I assume the absence of the passenger side articulating arm is a cost saving measure.

I just moved from E65 to 2011 F02. I think lot of stuff was better in E65. I don't know why is BMW getting so greedy.

Is it necessary for China? Since China is now the predominant market for 7ers, the priorities have changed. They can get away with more commonality with the 5er in China than with the USA and Germany, which were the traditional large markets for the 7er. Just a theory.

Deutsch100 the mono-wiper system that mercedes used was very powerful. Mercedes always had odd effective wiper systems. They still use the articulating passenger wiper like BMW used too, which I like.

I wonder if it's possible to modify the articulating wiper on to the FXX chassis BMW. It probably is, but probably would take a load of work.
