Adding AUX to Z3 factory radio

I was looking at the page http://www.my330i.com/mod26.php
and the radio looks the same with a different face plate, I'm betting the faceplate's are interchangeable and the 2002 330i radio is set up for factory aux input
when I get some extra $$ im going to get a used one and see what happens, I know the factory cd player in my car the face plate can be removed , makes since it was cheaper for them to make a new faceplate then to redesign the actual radio part pysically

No, the E46 radios won't fit in a Z. The face is about 2" wider. And I highly doubt the faces are interchangeable, as I've never seen a (non-detachable face) radio where the face completely comes off with the display and everything.

Why don't you just use a changer-bus AUX adapter?

On my 96 I popped the face off after disengaging the clips, its just a bunch of push buttons under it

So if there are buttons under there, the other radio's cuttons would have to be in the same place, no? The E46's radio has buttons hanging off the right side where there is no chassis.

Here's a few methods of adding AUX in to the Z3 radio using the CD changer input. Blitzsafe (http://www.blitzsafe.com) and Soundgate (http://www.soundgate.com) both make them. Soundgate offers a device called a Docking Station that plugs in line with your current CD changer so that you can gain an aux input without losing the changer.
