650 Sound Cutting Out

Hey Gang - just purchased a 2008 650 convertible (love it) and I am having sound issues. I love playing the music LOUD and when I do this for a long period of time (over say a half hour) the amplifier cuts out. I assume this is an overheating protection kind of thing - is this normal? I have never had a previous BMW do this to me.

The amp cut out again today, it is a tad hot out, and when I checked the trunk I could hear the fan going like mad back there. Again, I am assuming this is an over-heating issue and it shuts off for protection.

My question is - can this be remedied? (other than the smarty pants answer of not playing the tunes so loud! ) Each time, once the amp cools, I can play the radio again - sometimes for only a really short period as the amp I assume hasn't cooled that much.

I have an extended warranty, but before I dump her off at the stealership I wanted to know if, 1. this is normal for the 650 and 2. if there are any remedies I could try on my own.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Congrats on the new car. Post up some pics.

I am pretty sure the dealer will give you the smart-azz reply you are not looking for. (turn it down) If you want blast the tunes I would recommend you upgrade the amp.

I hate to sound like your grandpa, but I used to DJ so I'm not afraid of loud sound systems, and I also have a lot of ex-DJ friends who suffer from Tinnitus. The OEM system is loud enough to put you in permanent ear damage territory at full volume.
