brake Linings Dashboard Error

So, My dash keeps giving me a break linings error when I just got the brakes done and sensors replaced.
I've found the other threads for the little tricks to get the message to go away with the ignition and all, but none seem to be working.
Is there another way of doing it for the 1992 525i?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!

Did you do all 4 brakes? Also, did you replace both sensors if you did all 4 brakes?

Yes, it was all done a few months ago by a family mechanic and I suppose he couldn't or didn't know how to reset the message. Thank you!

I don't think that the message has to be "reset". Once you install new pads and sensors, the error message should go away. Once a sensor makes contact with the rotor and it trips the error message, it has to be replaced or you will continue to get the error message.

Has this error message been up ever since your mechanic changed the pads? If so, you need to speak with him about it because he may not have known that the sensors had to be replaced. I would not want to think that he told you he replaced them and actually did not.

If you just started getting the error message, then I recommend you pull your wheels and visually inspect the brake pad linings. It is possible that you have some type of problem causing extremene wear of a pad, such as a stuck caliper.

Hope this helps.

if the sensor isn't making contact on any one of the sensors it can send this message. its kind of a pain IMO
I have read about a physical override...just sticking a wire in the harness for each brake sensor I've been planning on doing it myself, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you

Your mechanic ****ed up the sensor replacement or did not replace them at all.

What happened to mine is that I didn't push the sensors far enough for it to contact with each other . ( the male and female connectors of the sensor ) I hope yours will be as simple as mine was ... And Steve is right there is no reset , the error message should go away by itself if it has been replaced .

When I did my brakes I bought new sensors and installed them. Message was still there.

I realized that the new Made in china sensor had a connector made of rubber and the pin inside the connector sort of fell into the rubber and wouldn't make contact with the cars connector. What I did was splice the old plastic connector onto the new wear sensor and reconnected it.

Its a simple system really.
The ccm checks for continuity at the wear sensor connector. If its an open circuit you get "brake linings". Close the circuit and it goes away immediately. No reset.
