The X3 in (Canadian) Winter

I have never owned a BMW but am considering an X3. I would appreciate the input of any Canadian owners, or from similar climes, on how well their X3 handles cold weather.

More specifically, are there things that just don't work well in extreme temps? I am in Saskatoon, SK, and it's not unusual to have long stretches of -10 to -20C and can easily go down to -30 or 40 overnight. With those temps it's the little things that often make a difference, like "heated" wipers icing up and freezing in place or tailgates not opening properly. In other words, heated seats and remote starters are possibly the greatest inventions in civilized history

For those not familiar with Saskatoon, we don't live in igloos. Summers are marvelous and we have lots of 30+C days. But there are plenty of the opposites.

So fellow Canadians: what's your experience been like?

Fellow Canadian

We have an 09 x3
No problems in the winter
Gets warm fast and the heated seats are toasty in about 2 minutes
Can't imagine how i ever survived without a heated steering wheel
Xdrive is very capable in snow

There were battery-related complaints this past winter on another BMW forum. They originated in the Edmonton area. See http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=640779

I now live in a warmer (than Saskatchewan) climate, but I still like my heated seats and heated steering wheel. Remote Start for the X3 is not a BMW option, but is one that I may explore when I get closer to End of Warranty. If you typically use a block heater of some sort then understand that you won't be able to use a dipstick-type heater, as there is no dipstick on the X3. After reading the above-referenced post, you may want to consider a trickle-charger solution of some sort. (Not one that works through a cigarette lighter port - those are disabled 15 minutes after the X3 is turned off.)

Hope this helps.
