Post Bimmer ABS and Auto Transmission problems :(

318 P Reg 1997 Auto, ABS fault code has come on and I have had machine on it and error code 71 Pump Motor is shown but does not delete code when trying to erase fault.

Can someone kindly direct me to this pump motor and tell me why this is possibly happening?.

Other fault is that the revs climb up but car doesn't move in drive and when I use the 1st 2nd and 3rd its a little better but Drive is sloppy!

Thank you

sounds like 2 different problems, as the abs is related to the brakes.

as for the trans, i would check the fluid level and condition. fix as necessary.

if within specs, then it looks as if you would have some sort of issue with the trans. i'd look at taking it to a trans shop unless you can find a reman and are able to r&r yourself.

in which case, get some additional new related parts such as trans mounts, guibo, copper exhaust nuts, and exhaust hanger.

as to the abs motor, check the fuse. if it keeps blowing you may need to get a new (reman) unit. never rebuilt one as they tended to require specialty tools that i did not have access to, as well as a liability factor that the shop did not wish to entertain.

Hi there, checked the ABS fuse and this is okay, also checked the ABS Pump to find a small leak coming from one of the pipes so guessing this maybe the cause of the ABS fault!.

Still need to check the Trans for fluid level etc.

Regards

Okay Talked to an auto trans specialist and he told me to disconnect the ABS pump ECU connector plug off and the Automatic gearbox is now working perfectly fine :-/

This must mean that the ABS was causing the issue all along!
