alt bracket oil leak DIY used wrong gasket

Hello All,

I'm ready to cry...

I did all of the work to replace the gasket in the alt bracket which took forever and was very difficult to say the least....

I finished the job yesterday and this morning I realized something it different with the gasket the dealer sold me, it was for a car without an oil cooler, mine has one! I was just thinking this will prevent oil from going through the pressure valve to the cooler and back into the engine... it is sort of bypassed since the oil can leak straight back into the engine...

Anyone have any comments? I'm wondering if I should just leave it alone at this point

Figured it out, the other side to this is a thermostat to keep the cold oil from going to the oil cooler... not a pressure valve

I do remember thinking the seal they gave me was different (never trust the part they give you!)

I did put the black permetex on the timing cover gasket and the slot in the alt bracket seal where mine didn't have the rubber so it should be ok...

Also I measured the temperature going to and from the oil cooler getting around 20 degrees difference which means oil must be moving through it correctly

I've do work on a bunch of cars over the years, that is one of the worst designs I have ever seen! I don't know why they didn't keep the alt bracket separate from the engine mount, for that matter why not make the whole bracket much shorter and avoid the whole issue?!!!

If anyone gets stuck please contact me... I also think using an engine hoist is the best way
