It's not that good looking subjectively, but Porsche does have higher status than BMW.
I went with the 650i GC over the Pana for 2 reasons. Sat in the Pana and did not like the interior at all. And the GC can sit 5 ppl for the very infrequent occasion. Something that none of the CLS/Pana/A7 can do at the moment........

No joke! The 640GC I just built with my specs 99k... CLS63 AMG 104k. 315hp vs. 518hp lol 5k for an extra 203hp, I think so!

I just don't think they have the engine or features to match the Panni, or even the CLS.

Yeah, I don't know what drugs BMW is on with the pricing. For $80,000 you can get a very well equiped CLS550. Maybe they will have killer lease deals on the Gran Coupe - that is BMW's strong suit.

Not BMW's fault either. I am sure BMW planned it that way. After all, 3 and 5 are BMWs bread and butter. And BMW should sell a ridiculous number of the 3s and 5s. But for people who are looking for something that is still fairly practical but less common, I think the 6GC fills that gap very very well
I'm not going to lie...I'm happy for you!

As has been observed by several on this forum, as BMW owners we all pay a premium to drive cars that are well beyond basic automobiles. Why? Because we can and we like what we like.

So, I won't feel sorry for anyone who can afford to own/drive the cars they like...I applaud them!

Please post pictures of your GC once you have it. Speaking for myself, I haven't had a good drool in a long time!

I agree...anyone pitying us for going after a 650i GC is the one that needs pity. It sounds like sour grapes to me. They can't afford one or Momma won't let them buy one so they throw stones at a beautiful car.

The CLS interior is above reproach and much nicer than its E cousin.

It's pretty good but there are a few big issues:
- gear stick on steering column
- Exposed cup holders
- poor selection of interior leathers (unless you go designo)
- inability to choose what wood you get with what leather

I think Mercedes are generally bland looking so it would be hard for me to get past the looks to give it a fair comparison to a Bimmer.

Certainly not necessarily any blander than BMW interiors. Only recently BMW has steped up its game.

How many would go with the lighter wood with the oyster~black interior?

Are MB engines as superior as BMW's?

I just test drove a CLS 550...its a weird car. Looks imposing on the road, but the steering lacks feel relative to the uncomfortable and jarring ride of the stiff suspension. Its a weird mismatch.

Its an e-class that is 20 K too expensive.

However, its engine is truly a work of art. Mercedes and V8's -- can't beat 'em.

The engine was the only thing worthwhile, even the interior, while def good...was not S Class.

The only good mercedes is the S Class. Might as well pony another 20 K and get the real deal.

Haha...you do have to love hedge fund managers and bankers.

Most of those people don't care about cars -- they are interested in whether they are time-sharing a private jet or they own one. Blankfein is more worried about his 27 million dollar UWS apartment and his 41 million dollar Hamptons weekend home. They're also into boat, with docking fees approaching 10 K/month in some places. Cars mean nothing to these people.

Cars...are for chumps There is no end to this.

Its a different engine...MB engines are butter smooth and have tons of torque down low. They aren't as responsive/sport as BMW though.

But their interior, esp the S Class...is something else.

Truly the best car in the world.

This is one big issue. If it's meant to be a sporty, ferocious car, then why put the gear selector on the steering column? It reminds me of the cars in the 70's

Comparing based models, the BMW is $4,720 higher. I guess it would depend on how much incentives BMW is willing to give out.

As far as the current lease offers, it looks like MB has a residual of 54% and MF of 0.00145. BMW is 65% and 0.00190 respectively. Both are for 833.33 miles per month. (MB is 32,500 miles for 39 months, BMW is 30,000 miles for 36 months)

Without consideration of taxes, title, licenses, and doc fees, leasing will cost approx $43,370 for the MB and $35,560for the BMW. Those totals include DP, Acquisition and Monthly Payments. So if i calculated this correctly, then it would 7,800 more to lease the MB.

I found the CLS interior to be overall excellent. Only downside for me was COMAND, which really shows its age. Dynamically, the car is very similar to the F10 550i. Engine, handling, and even the steering is similar. The CLS is very rare, and you pay for that.

I also test drove the new CLS but disliked its handling very much. Feels a lot worse than my F10 550i. Granted that I have the DHP on my F10 and put on the ACS springs ..... Hoping the the 650i GC will be even better than the 550i!

Just left my buddy at the dealership.
While there I checked out the GC.

Overall I was very impressed. The lines are really nice (thought it'd be goofy w added doors.).

Two things that struck me:
It was M package w black seats, and sitting in the back felt like being in a coffin. Okay maybe not that somber but all that black w the expanse of the Alcantara headliner made it gloomy for sure.

And believe it or not once my friend in the driver's seat got comfortable I was cramped in the back seat.

Other than that very nice. But if you're squished in the back seat of a GC--what good is that?

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm using this one to share my thoughts on the Grand Coupe. My dealer got one in and I went and looked at it today. The car is a 640 with a list price of $102K. The car is an M-Sport, Carbon black with black Napa. Pics do not do the car justice. It is truly the best looking BMW I have ever seen. The proportions and the detailing on the car are spot on.

Needless to say, the dealer had loaded this one up with just about every option you can put on a 640. Yet much to my amazement (and theirs when I pointed it out to them) the car did not have a power trunk or soft close doors, and they are not available on the car. I think people paying that much for a four door sedan are going to be unhappy about that.

An oddity is that the front seats are the same as the 650 coupe. So what you say? Well, the seatbacks have the button on top for the rear passenger to be able to move the seat forward. That seemed really strange to me in a four door. Also, the seat/shoulder belts retract into the seat which I would not have even noticed and is no big deal. BTW, the cars had the all LED headlights. The detailing of the headlights is really cool. Seriously cool, especially with the LED fogs turned on.

Another really cool feature is that the high intensity brake light is a thin strip of sold light all the way across the top of the rear window. You really don't even see it until the brake is activated.

If you can live with slightly less rear seat room and aren't put off by the price, I think it would be an awesome sedan to own. BTW, the trunk looks as big as a "5" trunk. Maybe not quite as tall, but I think it would hold just about as much. Oh, and the B&O stereo sounds incredible.

Alex Dykes from TTAC said it best in his review of the CLS:

As a result, both the A7 and CLS “suffer” from limited headroom in the back, but what are those seats really for? Not the kids. No, the seats are for business lunches where you jam someone in the back for a 5-minute trip to Il Forniao and wow them with your car’s acceleration.

Point taken.

335 sedan to travel four in comfort.

Squish four for impress points = 6GC?

Do I have that right?

Would you rather have a fake 4 door sports car like the 640i for $102k, or a real 4 door super car like the M5?

The front of the M6 is far more impressive than the 640GC.

Please help me understand why pay 15K for the 650GC than buy the CLS550?
