It's been really hot in the northeast

My e65 Has given me an error saying that I am low on coolant. Is this because it's been so hot that it may have evaporated?

If the coolant is actually low(check it in the AM before you start it up for an accurate check) good chance you have a leak. And yes as db states its probably a good time to drive the SL. Im a bit envious of your weather as out here my SL just sits in the garage due to rain and cold....

My car has read temps that registered 105 and 107 at one point. I have never touched the coolant or the passed 3 years. I'm under stand coolant has a high and low boiling and freezing point. But I'm not talking about Evap occurring on a major scale. I'm thinking that some was lost. Either way I'm still under CPO and tomorrow is Saturday.

I'm just wondering that if infact it was an Evap, this makes the solution inside of the tank more concentrated. So hypothetically I can reconstitute it with RO or DI water that I do have access too at work and well be back on track.

Just came from the dealer ship. BMW of Bloomfield in nj and the guys there topped off all of my fluids for nothing infront of me.

They said that just this morning they topped off 30 or so cars with coolant because of this past heat wave.

Anyhow I just got the damn low coolant thing back again. This means I have a leak :-/
I popped the hood and the engine cover looks like it has a residue of coolant I guess. Must be a small leak somewhere. I wonder where and if it'll be covered under cpo

could be the reservoir next to the radiator. They usually crack at the neck.

Very true, buy the part at dealer if it is leaking. Takes literally 10 minutes.

Ok guys. Just snapped some pictures in a rush since I'm not sure what I'm looking for. The reason I say there is a residue is Bevause my engine bay is always super immaculate. I take pride in its "brand new look". To the point where the guys at the dealer scratched the engine cover during service so I had it replaced. When you look close you'll see the residue I'm talking about.

I can tell you that there is no obvious signs of leaks. Not sure if I should be alarmed more or less now.

I cant right now I am at work but if you remove the top there are little corky gaskets around them. Mines rotted out an I replace them with O ring kit. Its a temp fix until I order a new cap. But so far no more leaks. I am not saying that is your problem but you can look there.

Just came from BMW. They told me there is no leak. Just a faulty sensor. I'm not convinced but what can I do. Stupid me topped it off before I left my office to drive there.

If you remove the reservoir there is a sensor beneath it make sure its plugged in the bottom of the reservoir

I tried to do this for the sake I saving the 50$ on cpo but didn't have the proper tools. Also. I have this suspicioun that it is infact leaking.

Yesterday I had the tech show me visually and I started to ask him questions, he replied that he can't help me excuse it's his first day and he doesn't really know any answers. I was really disapointed that they would put someone in training to diagnose such a problematic car. I guess he has to start somewhere.

Homework:

Buy a coolant reservior from the dealer, a gallon of BMW coolant or distilled water and a torx driver set (a must for any task on BMWs). Install should only take 10 minutes, 20 if you like to take your time and clean everything like I do .
