Z4 door storage
I'm not at all happy with the door storage on the Z4--it's narrow and extremely difficult to get things in and out. I started thinking yesterday about making it wider. In theory you could saw off the outer part of the storage compartment from the door, attach a fillet to make it wider, then reattach the bit you sawed off.
Before | | |_____| | | |insert_____| After This is all theory as I don't know how the door parts fit together--does anyone know? The alternative, if there is sufficient interest, would be to contact Dräxlmaier, the original manufacturer, to see whether they would help in some way. Their Interior Systems Division "produces luxury leather interiors of unsurpassed quality including Functionally Integrated Systems (FIS) which combine wire harness technology with exceptional interior door design and function." They are based near the factory, just south of I85 on 290 DAA (Draexlmaier Automotive of America) Interior Systems Division 1751 East Main Street Duncan, SC 29334 USA Phone: (864) 433-8910 Fax: (864) 486-0256 I'm not exactly local, geographically. Anyone fancy a challenge? Tim

If the pockets are wider, will they collide with the seats? Take you measurments while sitting in the seat, as the seat bottom will probably deform out an inch or two with weight on it.
Z4 door panels are *probably* like E46 door panels.... Large RIM pieces that are heat stalked together. You could cut the map pockets off but the insert piece would have to be painted or finished in a very nice way in order to look like a part of a $50K+ car.

![]() It looks like there's an easier solution to my storage needs--I didn't realise the new armrest would have a huge storage capacity. Tim

Mark4 is more of a stowbox than an armrest. Should be pretty decent storage space.
But it wouldn't hurt to have bigger map pockets too.
