Test drove the F10 M5
Last week I was contacted by a very close friend of mine who is responsible of a BMW dealer to test drive the new F10 M5.
What to say simply standing out car. IMO much better than the previous E60, handles better and specially the gearbox is smoother than before. It was only one bad think: it was raining so no chance to try it in sport mode with DSC partially off (MDM1) or completely off MDM2). I had the chance to make this test just two weeks after having tested the new F10 Alpina B5 Bi-turbo. What to say the two cars are quite similar both in power and handling however the M5 compared to the B5 is much more angry and invite you to a more aggressive drive. On the other side Alpina with the automatic gearbox the perfect GT for long drives on motorways preferably Germans with no speed limit. Here are some photos of the two beasts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The Alpina definitely looks sweet. Can you elaborate on the two cars?

I'm breathless just looking at the damn photo!
The new M5 looks much more "beastier" (yes I know that's not a word) than the previous version. Kind of like the difference between Sean Connery (aggressive and bold) playing James Bond and Roger Moore (refined). IMO when it comes to the M5, I'll take the Sean Connery aggressive styling. The Alpina version is nice, but I'll stick with the regular version. The black makes it look wickedly sweet. Ok, now I just need to finish cutting some more lawns.

That's amazing! I bet that was one hell of an experience! Congrats.
And both cars look sweeet! I'd be between a hard place and a rock trying to choose either one.

As much as I love BMW, I think this is a design element that they've often failed at over the years on several models. The M5 hood looks much better in person than in photos after having seen it today at the Philly auto show in frozen silver. Just stunning.

I personally think the Alpina looks much, much cooler than the M5 - meatier, more aggressive.

I know alpina does a wicked job with the performance but i wish they wouldn't go so overboard with the exterior.. their b7 is perfect i think the b5 went a little overboard

I vote for the Alpina (for the wheels alone (almost)) am I correct that the B5 isn't coming to the U.S. ? |

Why does the Alpina say BiTurbo? Surely it is a twin-turbo (i.e. parallel turbos) rather than a true biturbo (two sequential turbos)?

WOW...finally, an image of a new M5 in a color other than blue!!!! TOTALLY stunning on the "normal" M5 and the Alpina is pretty sweet as well...btw, what is the specific color of the M5??
Cheers, |

We're yet to see anything but the Alpina B7 in the US. That B5 looks real nice!
