Is dealer activation necessary on IPOD kit?

So i ordered this BMW Ipod OEM kit to replace my CD changer. I plan to install myself, but the information states that activation is required by dealer. In the DIY write up by MOPAULY, it appears that after installation, the IPOD will be recognized with no visit to the dealer necessary. Does this unit just scroll song/artist along bottom of the MMI screen, or will it show album art and more? if the dealer does activate it, will it improve the functionality and integration with the screen? Thanks.

Dealer coding needed to work at all, or just for additional enhancements?

It's possible that the car will recognise the iPod kit without coding, but it will not function properly.

To get it working as it should, you will need to add the '+IPOD' string to the VO using INPA and NCSExpert. This will reconfigure the car's software to fully support the increased functionality of the iPod kit.

I have the software, and have read through various forums looking for a how to on adding the ipod string, but have not found a simple how to guide or video. Can anyone post the steps of going into NCS to make the IPOD changes? Thanks.

NO DEALER CODING IS REQUIRED AT ALL

It is a straight swap with the CD Changer and the MMI will recognise it automatically.

See my thread with all the installation videos......

I can't believe you didn't find my thread if you searched this forum....????

Thanks, Ace - I had found that thread, but all of the video links are down. I'm sure it will recognize it, but I wanted to be able to change "CD1, CD2, etc to "Playlist, Artist, etc". Your video for this is not available.- Will you send me a link or something to these vids? It looks like your vids are exactly what I am looking for. Thanks.
