Looking for a little advice

I know, there are probably tons of threads about what to look out for, so Flame away....

I have got my eyes on a Avus Blue 1995 M3... here are the details... The guy selling it is asking $13900.00

79,000.00 MILES, NO TRACK TIME, 300 HP
AVUS BLUE WITH GREY LEATHER INTERIOR
5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH AUTOTHORITY SHORT SHIFT KIT
SUNROOF
CRUISE CONTROL
HEATED NON-POWER SEATS
MANY MODIFICATIONS AND UPGRADES:
1. BEKKERS PORTED AND POLISHED ALUMINUM HEAD
2. NEW VALVES, SPRINGS, RETAINERS, HEAD BOLTS, GASKETS,ETC.
3. SCHRICK BIG CAMS
4. 24 LB INJECTORS
5. EURO HFM MASS AIR FLOW METER
6. CONFORTI COLD AIR INTAKE
7. CONFORTI CHIP FOR BIG CAM KIT
8. TRI-FLOW CAT BACK EXHAUST
9. BREYTON VISION 18íS WITH PIRELLI 235/35/18 ASIMMETRICO TIRES
10. GROUND CONTROL STREET/TRACK COIL OVER SUSPENSION KIT
11. GROUND CONTROL CASTER/CAMBER PLATES
12. GROUND CONTROL REAR SHOCK MOUNTS
13. ROGUE ENGINEERING REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS
14. RACING DYNAMICS SWAY BARS
15. RACING DYNAMICS FRONT STRUT BAR
16. BMW X-BRACE
17. CLEAR CORNER AND REAR TAILLIGHTS
18. JT- DESIGN ALUMINUM UNDER PANEL
19. REPLACED WATER PUMP WITH METAL IMPELLAR AND THERMOSTAT HOUSING WITH ALUMINUM
20. BELTS RECENTLY REPLACED
21. REDLINE SYNTHETIC IN THE TRANSMISSION

Basically I am looking for some insight on the mods that have been done... I just want to make sure that cheap parts weren't used...

I am currently in a 2004 ZHP sedan, and am looking for a change of pace. I can say that the car looks good from the pictures I have seen.

I am having a bit of a emotional fit here... hoping that the experts here can help me figure out if I should move on it... of if I should pass it up.

Good to know...

I met the owner over the weekend, he did not however have the car with him. I may give a shout and check it out, after I do a little studying to see what to watch out for!

Its tastefully modded..

Yeah.. hes asking $14k FOR IT. (wayyyyy to steep)
There is one near me for $7K with S/C and gusto.
You can send me a grand, and save the other $6k for making it even more sinister.
Deal?

It would be nice IF you arent planning on driving much, or this is a weekend car, or your planning on keeping it as a "collectors" car.

BUT, If you actually plan on driving it.. Its going to depreciate REEEEEEEEAL quick.

reciepts.. and ask for DYNO sheet proving his 300000 Hp.

Someone that spends the time to do this work and says "no hard driving" or "no track time" is full of sh!t.

yeah, I am not prepared to pay his asking price. Hopefully he can come down off of that a bit. Since it has been for sale for a while it makes me think he probably won't come off of it too much....

Luckily I have the option of only driving when I want to... So it can be a weekend/nice day toy.

I also forgot to mention that it is coming with an extra set of wheels, additional front rotors, pads for all 4 corners, and a car cover...

Well.. If your planning on enjoying it sparingly.. it could be beneficial.
(in about 25 years)

extra stuff comes with it? (I hope so)
Wheels..? Are they magnesium?
Front rotors..? Are they floating euro rotors?
Pads..? Are they Ceramic Ultra-Death 9000 Pads?
Car Cover..? Is it Union handsewn by the most nimble fingers in the USA out of the hides of those blue fckrs in Avatar?

Cuz I still aint sold.

Those are all top shelf parts used on that car. At the very least, the owner knows BMWs, and E36s.

Is it worth a cross-country trip?

Anything over 9K for a non euro E36 is waaayyy too much. especially with a E46 M3 is in the 15K range or less.
I dont really see how those mods would net you 300hp so im thinking thats his guesstimate.
Id pass, get a E46 M3, or a E36 euro. I like my M3, but knowing that it should have been better and that they made a better one in europe is infuriating...

Find me an E46 M3 without a salvage title that isn't a basket case for $15k or less. Also, it's probably quite hard to find a Euro-spec M3 in Canada, since only 45 were shipped there back in the day when they were new. Sure, a few more true Euro M3s have been imported to Canada since then due to Canada's fairly lax car importation policy, but not many. They're still very rare.

I concur.
The euro would be nice.. I know I would want one.
If your gonna be dropping over a dozen eggs.. get a E46.
Or swap out your E36 motor for something more.. "peppy"!
Or pick up a classic bimmer, and drop a M54 in it. Go blow some doors off.

300 is a hard number to achieve.. I think its a bit inflated.
At the wheels.. meh.. 220, but if you got the right rear end in it, its all business.

Trust me, every single E46 M3 you guys find around $15k is either going to have a salvage title, insane miles, or need thousands of dollars worth of work in valve adjustments, worn out suspension, cooling system, etc. And on an E46 M3, which is a true M-car (unlike the US spec E36 M3), those parts ain't cheap. The one Jesse linked to above most likely falls into the latter category. At 94k miles, I bet it's due for a lot. People loooove to dump their E46 M3s when they approach 100k miles, because that's when 'ish gets real.

Most of the e46 m3's you will come across will have something that will detract from it.
(that can be said for a lot of things)

But they CAN be had for 15k
They are out there.
