Is This the Upcoming 3 Series GT Testing in Spain?

Our network of spies just tossed us some new photos of what looks to be the 3 Series GT testing in Spain. Reports show that sales of the 5 Series GT in the US have been less than stellar so we aren't even sure if this will ever make it state side.

This model that is being tested is spotted towing around what looks to be a test device for towing capacity or maneuverability. The car is also spotted with a rear spoiler attached for the first time.

Time will only tell what happens with this spied BMW but it sure is fun to speculate! Does anyone think (or want) the 3 Series GT will make it to the US?

Who would buy such a fugly car? The 5er GT is the ugliest POS BMW has ever put on the road.

All things being equal, I'd definitely take one over a sedan. I've always found hatchbacks more attractive (the Alfa GTV6 being the best example), and more practical to boot. Holding onto my 05 330i ZSP until this comes out.

Meh. No thanks, gimme a wagon. The BMW GT's are like the great grandchildren of the Chevy Citation, only way less numerous on the road.

Pontiac Aztek-esque...

It's really not bad looking. Lets see the finished product and take a look at it. I sat in the front and back seat of the current model and I was very impressed. Whoever is in the back seat will never complain and I like the layout of the front area as well. I really enjoyed the slide out area for my junk.

Ugh. And here I was hoping that BMW would kill the 5 series GT and just offer us a wagon. Looks like they're digging their heels in and forcing another Frankenstein SUV/car (what is it anyway) into our shores.

While I would never buy one, a 3 series GT makes more sense to me somehow than the 5 series.

Have you seen the 30 Rock episode where Jack, Frank, and Toofer are inventing a new microwave by changing its features such as adding four doors and putting wheels on it until Jack stops the project saying they had "invented the Pontiac Aztek."

What made the 5 GT so disappointing is that I like hatchbacks for the utility, loved some of the SAABs I owned. But the 5 GT makes you wonder who thought it looked good and what they were smoking. Europe gets lots of hot hatches with luxury touches and we get this. Hopefully the 3 GT once unveiled will look better, but my expectations are low.

It is much more elegant than the 5 GT. The Audi A7 is beautiful and it sells well in the US. I believe that 3 GT, if it is beautiful, and well proportioned will sell well.
