EdCT and I were at Bob Sharp's home on Saturday. Bob lives in Sherman, CT which is the area we will be driving through on our Foliage Run. The leaves are not at peak yet as you can see in the picture I took from the back porch. It looks like the temperature the weekend of the 27th is going to be in the high 50s, low 60s during the day and the low 40s at night.

Hah, that's Bob on the right - Bob's business partner in the middle and me on the left - we were discussing the fender flares on the race car and how the molds were created to make them.

I'v got some pics I've yet to upload. Thanks Chuck for inviting me, I learned a lot from Bob's presentation.

The guy in the middle is Bob Green who is a Senior Skip Barber Instructor and the pace car driver at Lime Rock Park.

Bob and his wife Joy run Survive the Drive:
http://www.survivethedrive.org/

A Teen Driver Safety Program

SurvivetheDrive® is an independent, not-for-profit, educational organization educating drivers of all ages, particularly vulnerable and inexperienced teenage drivers, about the often hideous and everlasting results of inattentive driving.

The primary goal is to reach every newly or soon-to-be licensed teen (or adult) through the use of a multi-media presentation by Bob Green. He focuses the students on the detrimental activity of texting, reading, drinking, phoning and any other activities that remove conscious understanding of the ever-present operational hazards of heavy, moving equipment. Bob calls this type of driving ‘Driving While Oblivious’ (DWO) and results in driver error in 93% of all crashes. Past and present novice driver training and DMV driver testing results have been shown to have little deterrent effect on these crash rates.

Here is a shot of the interior of the race car. It shows how different race cars are from street cars.

And this is a pictrure of the race cars garage mate, a Nissan GTR

Looks like you guys will be in good shape for the weekend. The sharp frost on Saturday really "flicked" the leaves down here on the coast, so a couple of weeks it should be awesome.

Hey, if you can't have faith in a 10-day forecast in New England, what can you have faith in?

CA, add my wife for Saturday Lime Rock and dinner, please.

We just got back from Asheville, and the colors have already turned at that altitude, so I have good hope for NW CT next week.

See ya there.

Peak is forecast for this weekend, so we'll be one week past. Should still be nice, though.

Here is our schedule:

Friday night the 26th we will meet for dinner at the Boathouse in Lakeville, CT at 7:00-7:30 PM. Some of us will be coming from the Wake Robin and some will be going directly to the Boathouse.

The Boathouse Restaurant
349 Main Street at intersection of Route 44 & 41
Lakeville, Connecticut 06039
(860).435.2111

Saturday morning those who are staying at the Wake Robin Inn will meet in the Breakfast Room at 8:30. At 9:30 we will leave for Lime Rock and take a short drive over some back roads to the track. Those who did not stay at the Wake Robin can meet us in the parking lot at 9:30 or they can head directly to Lime Rock, We will arrive at Lime Rock Park at 10:00 and park our cars in Sunoco Paddock. We will then head to Michelin Tower where we will raffle off 5 hot laps (2 riders each) in the Drivers Club M3 with Club coach Simon Kirkby at the wheel. The top 5 bidders will get to ride in the front seat. The Drivers Club will provide helmets and proceeds from the auction will be donated to The American Mural Project. We will meet for lunch in the Drivers Club Chalet at 11:30. Lunch will be provided by Lime Rock Catering, pricing and details to follow.

Wake Robin Inn
106 Sharon Lakeville, CT

Saturday Afternoon after lunch we will go on a drive through the Connecticut and New York State countryside, We will go through Sharon CT, Amenia New York, Millbrook New York (rest stop), cross a covered bridge in Bulls Bridge CT and head to Kent CT (rest stop) and Housatonic Meadows State Park (rest stop) and end up at the Fall Village Inn for dinner at 6:00PM.

Sunday Morning we will gather in the parking lot of the Wake Robin Inn at 10:00 AM and drive to the American Mural Project in Winsted CT. We will drive accoss another covered bridge and stop in the very picuturesque town of Litchfied CT. We will arrive at the Wall at 12:30 PM and artist Ellen Griesedieck will give us a private tour, Hopefully, if his schedule permits, Ellen's husband race driver Sam Posey will be there as well.

Ellen has not asked for anything in return for having us as her guests but I think it would be very appropriate if we all became members of AMP . I already am a member but intend to make an additional contribution.

There are 3 suggested giving levels to enable everyone to enroll and be counted as an AMP Member:

$120 (the Mural is 120 feet wide)
$48 (the Mural is 48 feet high)
$6 (the Mural is 6 feet deep)
Any other amount would be appreciated

Don't forget to bring your checkbooks and keep in mind that the AMP building is not heated so dress warmly!

EdCt and I did a trial run on both the Saturday and Sunday routes Sunday.

On Sunday we will leave the Wake Robin Inn in Lakeville at 9:30 AM. We will head to Litchfield CT around 10:30. This will be a fairly long stop. Lithfield has some nice galleries, antique shops, places to get coffee, etc. At 11;30 we will move out and head to The American Mural Project in Winsted. We should arrive around 12;30. Ellen will give us a tour of the project and refreshments (sandwiches, soda, coffee, tea, wine etc.) will be served,

Those that are not staying overnight in Lakeville can meet us at the Wake Robin, meet up with the group in Litchfield or go directly to Winsted.

Captain - a friend of mine will join the group for Saturday and Sunday (Peter + 1). He drives a 5-series and is a BMW CCA member...

Everyone - Please no teasing of the 5 series or I'll bring the GT on Sunday and completely get myself in trouble for it!

For those that are going directly to Lime Rock

Use the Infield Entrance at 60 White Hollow Road. You will have to sign in. If they ask where you are going tell them you are visiting the Drivers Club and that Jeanette and Simon know about it.

Follow the road marked in red accross the bridge and make a left down the hill to Suncoco Paddock and find a place to park. We will meet at Michelin Tower (circled in red)
