Leaks on oil pan and gearbox NOW with pictures
Hi all, thanks to all your help been throw smog test and annual inspection with almost no problem.
The new spark plugs, rebuild injectors and fuel pump must have something to do with that. Also right pedal happy. The only problems raised by the kind sir was some leaks and a failing flex disk, which already noted and ready to change. The leaks were mainly on the bottom of the oil pan and I have a picture of where it does accumulate. The other leaks, two more were near the gearbox. One appears to be on the joining with the motor: And the other one between the refill and end: The pictures aren't that good but if more wanted I can try to get. If anyone knows of "usual" places for the leaks or can give some tip/advice7help all appreciate. Thanks in advance. Best regards |

Buy some engine degreaser from a hardware store (called "purple power" here) and clean and rinse all the muck away. MAke sure its clean on the bottom of the engine.
Then start it up, drive around and carefully look for where it leaks from. This way you can pinpoint the leak. Possibilities are: Oil pan gasket, rear main seal, trans pan gasket, valve cover gasket, even a headgasket but unlikely. What else did I miss? |

Oil filter housing gasket
Trans cooler lines can leak tranny fluid and cause a mess as well, but not usually on the bottom of the engine itself.

to your first post....
rear main seal can be DIY but it is very difficult if you do not have a lift. On the bright side, it is not a common problem and I do not think it is one of yours. The de-greaser suggestion is a great one. Once the underside is clean you can see where your leaks are cumming from.

I'd check the oil pan bolts, look and see if they are all there. M50 and S38 are know to have oil pan bolts that go MIA.

Lots of potential leak areas. It does depend on which engine you have to some extent though. Power steering was leaking on mine, mostly the hose clamp on the bottom of the resevoir. M30 engines seem to work a front timing cover bolt out. I check mine regularly and have to tighten somtimes. Valve cover gasket can make a mess of the bottom of the engine too.
As advised, clean it up, start fresh. It is probably very minor, it was just let go for a long time.

Hi all. Thanks for the help. At this moment I'm having my annual break time with all the kids, meaning 5 of them and don't really have the time.
But again, the degreaser looks a pretty good tip. I'll do that and will keep you up to date. Best regards |
