Say, "Good Bye" to the legacy of the 6 Series. I thought that the Gran Coupe was pushing it but this is getting ridiculous.

For the record, eventhough I think the GC tarnished the concept of what the 6 Series is, I still think that the GC is a nice car. Will heavily consider it for when I have kids.

The Gran Touring idea, however, is just a huge turn off.

Please, BMW, rebadge them as a 9 Series or something. The 6 Series just doesn't sound as appealing to me anymore with the addition of the GC and especially now GT.

Agreed. Though I still consider the coupe very appealing - not sure how much we would even see of this model. This thing is rather grotesque, and I imagine also $100k? Maybe it's a parody piece from The Onion.

Article says they are considering an M version? I think that annoys me more. I understand that it's not BMW's philosophy to combine M and AWD (unless it's an SUV/SAV), but these 4500 pound luxo-crusiers M Cars are? Seems a bit contradictory to me.

I don't think it's terrible, actually. Of course, I've always been a wagon/touring fan (had two 3er wagons in the family). There's going to be a CLS Shooting Brake in Europe, so maybe...



That said, speaking of needing more trunk space, the rear seats in the GC fold down (or at least, are supposed to... I forgot to check), so that could help in certain situations.

Weirdly, I think the CLS looks a bit better. Mind you, I still don't love it. But I think the front is better proportioned and suited for the expanded arse end. Or maybe because I don't own one?!

I'm not a wagon hater either. I think they have great purpose and utility. I won't lie though. I most definitely will never own one, but I don't hate them.

However, how did they transform a performance luxury GT coupe into wagon??? It only had 2 doors as of a few months ago. They are more than doubling that (5 doors) with the release of this wagon lol.

The CLS was always a 4 Door at least. Maybe that's why it looks better.

I kinda like the CLS version. I'd never own one, but if I were going to buy a wagon I'd strongly consider that - AMG spec of course I know that makes no sense, but AMG is about the only way I'd take a Mercedes.

I'm pretty sure they sell an E63 AMG wagon in Europe. Actually over on another forum there is a whole thread about the R63 AMG ... Talk about a souped up mini-van!

I mean I'd be alive, but if I ever have to own a wagon or a mini-van (or the R-Class), I'd be dead inside. Might as well call it a day, life would be over. Sure an AMG or M wagon is at least somewhat rectifying the situation, but I still wouldn't be able to do it.

Thankfully Wifey agrees with me which is why we ended up with a GL550. That's a mommy-mobile I am down with, me and my American cultural prejudices against wagons and mini-vans.

I really don't understand the R Class. It really doesn't make any sense. Minivans have always seemed like the cheap alternative to an SUV. Putting three-pointed star on a minivan and giving it some burl walnut and leather embellishments doesn't really change that IMO. M Class - great (although I prefer the X5). GL - even better (my choice if we didn't need the Denali's size). R - someone please explain the point?

Now, if BMW would just make a X7 we'd be in business

This is up there with the GT models. Why water down the brand to the point of exhaustion? I can understand GC because CLS is a popular car and they want to compete, but there is a limit. BMW does not have to sell a model for every segment of the auto market. I hope to a higher power we never see a BMW minivan just because so many minivans are sold. I know Merc wants to say that their R-Class is a crossover, but that just isn't the case, it is a plain and simple minivan that doesn't have sliding doors.

I believe there was an article about BMW heavily considering manufacturing an "X7" in the future.

Yeah, I kinda remember seeing that. Too bad the future is still about 5 to 10 years late. They seem to be okay with softening up some of the cars compared to the stiffer, sportier predecessors, so I wouldn't think that the lack of sportiness of a big SUV would be a real reason not to develop one. BMW is responding to a lot of market pressure, for better or for worse, and I would really like to see the birth of such a car in the future. It seems like a huge gap in their line... aside from a supercar

They definitely need a new 8 Series and M8 to battle the Audi R8/RS8 and the MB SLS/SLS AMG respectively.

I think the higher front end / grille helps the CLS pull it off a bit better, too.
