2009 Idrive vs 2010 Idrive

Would someone help me with the difference between the 2009 and 2010 Idrives please?

I think I read that if you have the Nav system on the 2009, it upgrades the idrive functionality to the 2010.

I am trying to compare a 2009 535i to a 2010 535i, both would have the DVD based nav package.

Several posters have indicated they wished they would have waited for the 2010 rather than the earlier models because the Idrive is so much better.

Thanks in advance!

On my 2011 E92, the iDrive has dedicated buttons for phone, radio, nav so you don't need to go to the menu to select any of those, save a few clicks.
I don't have nav in my E60 to compare to it.

I have the 2010 E60 with Navigation and the newer iDrive and I think it's great.

The navigation is not DVD based like the prior version.

The display screen is much larger and higher definition.

There are dedicated short cut buttons next to the iDrive controller on the center console.

The layout and design of the iDrive menus is more intuitive and simpler to use.

There may be other differences, but these are the ones off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

That was very helpful.
Losing the cd portion on the nav I'd reason enough to prefer the 10.

There is lots of literature on this. The large new panorama HD screen is the same that is used in most other new models. The Nav system runs off a flash drive which will also stores music files and addres book. You can then sync your smartphone/iPod and play directly off iDrive.
