How do I remove Pre-Vanos Throttle Body? (doing Gaskets, valley pan job)

Hey guys I am doing a bunch of stuff, I got the electrical boxes and intake bolts off as I'm gonna do intake gaskets, tb, ccv, valley pan etc. but I can't figure out how to remove the Pre-Vanos (97-98 M62) throttle body. I did search a bit and the members that replied to my thread on the "other board" were only familiar with the TU tb.

Any help is appreciated, I'm sure it is not hard, I am just a beginner mechanic.

1. There is a thin cable (arrow is pointing to it) connecting to the throttle body/ASC that is preventing it from being removed fully, how do you disconnect this?



2. My flashlight is pointing to the hose that is still blocking a throttle body t30 bolt (I couldn't get it to show but its right behind the hose). I was able to loosen the hose clamp and slide it back but the hose doesn't freely come off. Is this a yank hard moment or am I attacking this incorrectly?

Don't recall the hose being in the way but can help with Q#1:

If you follow the cable under the throttle body you will notice a crimp on the end of the cable. Back along the throttle cable you can flip the plate next to the big spring or under the throttle body and unhook/loosen the cable.

Alternatively, if you are still unsure how to proceed, have someone slowly press on the accelerator pedal (with the engine off) and watch how the cable moves the throttle body. In the open position, grab the cable and unhook the crimped end underneath.

Warning: be careful with the plastic adjustment parts, (thumb screw) the can easily break.

Thanks gene, I solved both in a few minutes thanks to your advice. I first noticed a screw on the bottom and thought maybe i had to take that off, even though it didn't sound like your advice. I put a 14mm around it and it just swiveled the unit and then I looked back at your advice (I printed it out haha) and realized the black thing just pushed in which when fully pushed in exposes the crimp that that you can pop the cable off.

With that off I was able to life the intake a bit more which allowed me to get my hand in a better position to remove the hose I had a problem with. It needed a good wiggle and with more hand space it came off without too much trouble.

Yep, glad it worked out as I was trying very hard to recall exactly how to explain it. Simply recalling from memory having done mine well over 4-5 years ago was not so easy.

Thanks again gene, of course stupid me forgot about what I believe are the Cruise Control cables? There are 2 cables that run the length of the intake still connected to the throttle body that also have similar looking plastic black "adjusters". I used the same logic as last time and got it to swivel to the back to see where it hooks in but it didn't connect the same way and I didn't get those 2 cables on. So if you can summon any more of that knowledge up again I'd be grateful

Sorry, I know the two cables you refer to but not sure what you are asking to do with them. I don't recall having to unhook those.

In fact, I recall trying not to disturb those too much as the thumb adjusters can become brittle and crack like all the old underhood plastics.
