Long trip across the country...

I just drove from Indianapolis area to the Black Hills and it was a pretty good trip. I was able to stretch her legs a few time which I think is a good thing for a car like this. Burn off all of the crud thats built up. Also great to see the ole girl can average ~22-23 mpg driving between 60-90mph most of the time. Still hard for me to believe when thats a family of 4 plus cargo for 10 days. I would never get that kind of mpg out of the SUV's I've had in the past. Still loving this car despite its quirky nature at times.

Also as a side note: Still can't believe how many people stare as I pass by...

I had 2 long trips across when I picked mine up. First from south Florida to Chicago, then from Chicago to Colorado. I wasn't carrying much else but me and some clothes and I was getting upwards of 36mpg averaging, with ~80 being my most effective zone.. Plenty of room to open her up towards Oklahoma on 44 also, easily hitting 120+, making it hard for people to look when I pass em

Not in a 7 Series unless it was downhill all the way.

Lots of driving in the Black Hills yesterday. First time I really used the manual shift function in the car. Mostly down hills for some engine braking. System works pretty good, but another one of those quirky things about this car. Would have been better with paddle type shifting vs buttons. Oh well still a nice feature on the car. Also used the sport mode which really makes a difference on curves and twisting. Also seams like the power from the engine is alot more responsive. Still lots of stares and for some reason there are very few BMW's up here. Lots of Volvo's, Saab's and Audi's...

Unless my readout is wrong, which I doubt. And I've done the math myself beyond to confirm.

I highly suspect your readout is wrong and your math is wrong...

That would mean on a 22 gal fillup you'd have 800+ mile tank.

something is very wrong with your readout. Your 7 couldnt average 36 mpg even if you dropped it out of a plane

FYI...The trip meter has shown as high 595 miles range which I think is pretty cool. But probably never really got that much from it. Also doubt the 36 mpg claim, but then again not my car so I could never say for sure. Maybe it has some changes to the engine and drive management that allow that kind of mileage...Never say never...
