2003 E65 - Sound Quality - MOST bus reset

Just wanted to share with you.
I was pretty much dissatisfied with sound quality on my E65 (No Logic 7 installed) and felt that sound system is not working correctly (lost clarity especially on high frequencies) After some research found an article by mighty BMW_Tech where he suggested following to fix unrelated to my problem audio failure:

"We can isolate possibilities and eliminate them one by one,thus the need for more information.If you can,borrow a MOST bus "jumper" from another car.This is located in the glove box, looking in it's on the top panel with a "door".You cant miss it,that's the MOST bus connection for the OPS.(Pin 1 is incoming,2 is out) You can try to "reset" the MOST by turning the key on and disconnecting/reconnecting the jumper plug."

I decided to try reset. Result is AMAZING. Now system produces deep and clear sound on all frequencies and I am happy happy ! It's like half of the speakers just got turned on...

I do not know, maybe bus reset triggered other processes but looks like now system is back to normal again.

BTW, just got NEEEEEEEEEEW headlights (Got replaced by dealer under warranty)!

what did you say to your SA to get them replaced? Mine are terrible

wow, very cool info. I would be curious to see if BMW_Tech thinks this is an anomily, or whether that reset could actually have some effect on the audio system.

Headlights replacement. It was raining heavily one one night and I noticed water and condensation in both left and right headlights. I immediately took couple of pictures, drove to BMW center and spoke with SA about it. He noticed water and also attached set of pictures to service request. I had to come back later because no appointment was set. Came back couple of weeks later and they replaced both headlights. They are not sealed by design but excessive condensation is not normal and affecting light output which is affecting you driving at night or under bad weather conditions...

Again this reset might triggered some other process which set my system back to normal. I cannot say for sure as do not have sufficient knowledge of BMW MOST controllers and amp systems. But it was a logical choice and I took the risk.

How do you disconnect the "jumper" plug ???

i tried this on my 02' 745i with Logic 7. no difference that i could tell. the original post says this was done on a Non-Logic 7 system, maybe thats the trick??? don't know........

i can get to the jumper plug but how do i disconnect it??? ive tried pulling it but it wont budge!

There is a tab at the back of the black connector. You need to push that in to release the grey "loop" jumper.

by doing this will it reset the service counter too?

There is no service counter for your audio system !

oh i thought that when i reset that it would reset everything electronic... so it's just the audio that resets when i pull the jumper plug?

Should reset most items on the MOST (Media-Oriented Service Transport or something like that) bus ring -- mainly think of items that pertain to audio and video (Logic 7 devices, CD changer, ASK unit, etc.).
 

I know a couple of you have posted here how to do it, but nothing works better than pictures. Would any of you happen to have any?

Its really not worth posting pictures as its that simple ! Open your glove box-Have a look at the roof of your glove box and you'll see a compartment. Open that compartment and you'll see a grey loop attached to a black connector. Press the tab on the black part of the connector to release the grey optic loop. Simples !

Can anyone confirm that it's just the audio it resets ? or is it everything else too ?

Don't want to lose the servicing schedule on the Idrive.

This will not affect the servicing schedule at all. It will reset the MOST bus. This bus is responsible for mainly audio related functionality using fibre optic cable. It has nothing to do with engine management.

I am francesco from Italy and I have a z4e89 sdrive 30i....
I had a mistake not ordering the car with Ipod interface , so I ordered it .
part number is 65 41 2 152 324, before was old 65 41 x xxx 881.
then started problems....
1 my dealer was not able do give me install instructions....
2 I suspect that my dealer won't I do DIY job as they lose money
3 I struggled to remove trims without instructions and without ruining trims....but everything came off with no problems or damage.....
4 cars after 9 2008 , with no other MOSt interface need a 61 12 2 146 480 optic fiber flash cable with different casing a nd a sort of plug for flash adapter...PN 61136919391....I have to connect this one somewhere and theres a kind of short circuit cover/plug on it....the plug is the same as the one I see in the picture above, position number 9.
1 WTF the flash cable is?
2 does someone knows where I have to plug this stuff?near the obd interface?near fuse box?
3 Is this retrofit job bigger than me?
4 have you ever seen those cable and adapter on your car ?
