I just wanted to buy an M3....

I've owned an '11 335d for almost a year, but I had the opportunity to purchase an '11 E92 M3 for $11K below MSRP, so I jumped at it.

I sold my pristine 335d to the first person that looked at it, and he offered me $4K over what the dealer would have given me for a trade. I threw in a bunch of money from my savings and got a small loan for the rest, and the M3 was paid for.

Here in England, buying a US-spec car (from a dealer specializing in US military sales) means getting the taillights and headlight switch replaced with UK-spec items. Mine had to be ordered from Germany, so that added a week.

Fast forward to a couple days ago. I've been waiting patiently for the taillights to get done, and Monday they finally did. The car went for an SVA inspection (ensures road-worthiness and compatibility with all laws) and the paperwork was overnighted to the DVLA (English DMV). Their usual turnaround is one day for a tax disc and ownership documents.

I should have taken delivery on the 4th. The paperwork didn't show up, so I figured it would be today. Still nothing. My salesman calls the DVLA (while I'm in his office) and is told the computer that prints the tax discs is broken and they don't know when it will be fixed. Ugh.

On top of that, the headlight switch that was installed doesn't have the option for adaptive headlights. It's the wrong switch!

I just wanted an M3...not a headache.

when it gets sorted, you will forget the wait. hang in there. it's 100% worth it

I took delivery yesterday and the car is great.

The issues persist, though. This time it's the dealership that did my taillight conversion. Part of the process is to replace the headlight switch with a euro version that can control the rear fog light capability. They installed the wrong switch! The part I have doesn't include adaptive headlight capability (no "A" option).

Since I discovered it, the service adviser hasn't called me back.
