Oil Leak on 03 X5 3.0

Hey Gang

I have a persistent oil leak under the X5. I have replaced the valve cover gasket (wasn't coming from there but... I can'really tell where its coming from, it collects in the skid plate and drips constantly but not enough that it more than annoying. It loses about a guart between oil changes. But the constant marking it's territory is starting to bug me.

Any ideas? Doesn't appear to be the pan gasket either. Thanks in advance for any tips you all can provide.

I just had the same issue. It was the oil separator valve also called the Pressure Regulating Valve in the diagram link below.

Unless you have other signs of CCV failure, I don't think that is the cause. When it clogged, your VCG would usually leaked and maybe smoke at start-up.
Oil Filter Housing gasket is a possible leak on the M54 engine besides the VCG.

I have leaks from valve cover and from oil filter housing. Pretty common, so I hear.

I have now figured out that I have the oil filter housing gasket but it was hard to tell at first. I bought the oil filter housing gasket for $5 bucks but looks like you have to take alot apart to get to it. I know my brother can do it since he did the OSV (10 hour job).

I think i love solving all the problems is why i like my bimmer!

I'm doing it this weekend. Valve cove gasket, and auxiliary fan too. Hoping to knock out the fan Friday night, then both gaskets on Saturday.

Do some other cross maintenance to save labor: Spark-plugs, Vanos seals, clean MAF, ICV, throttle body ....
