535d Throttle Lag -- 2nd Gear Only

My 535d is pretty laggy and loose in second gear in stop-and-go. It seems more a function of the torque converter slop than turbo lag.

The situation is much better in all other gears. I always drive in Sport and I shift manually. My car is over a year old.

Is there anything to be done short of spending a lot of money on aftermarket upgrades?

Thanks for the bump.

I actually noticed the same thing on my 535i. At first it was in 1st gear (from dead stop to start) and this got corrected (let's say at 80%) by the software update made by the dealer, but now I am observing the lag on roll up in second gear, when giving gas to pick up speed the lag is obvious.
Nature of the computerized beast I'm afraid.

I'm trying to figure out if it's just a fact of life or something the dealer can correct. In 2nd gear, the transmission feels almost like a CVT up to about 2k/rpm.

I know exactly what you're saying. It is a bit less annoying (to me anyway) to have this lag on roll ups in second gear than from dead stop in first, but still, I would love to be able to get an immediate response to the gas pedal.... IN ANY GEAR!

Keep us informed if you learn anything outside of the forum... thanks!

Have you consulted your service adviser? I think it is likely a software problem that could be corrected with a software update....there may already be a service bulletin out for the same.

That's next. Right now I'm just trying to find out what I can so I'm better informed.
