Performance tuning

I just bought a 2005 530i and I was researching online about computer tuning it? Do I have to buy one of those conn access ports or is there something more economical or can a performance shop tune it without me paying $900 for that cobb port?

No, the tuner kits do not apply to your car. Just leave it stock and enjoy it.

Nothing sensible can be done with a 530. Change your mind and enjoy what you have. It is a great car!

'Zactly. BMW already choked 255 HP out of a small 3 liter straight six, with a great torque curve and response; don't fall victim to marketing and slap some intake or cheap exhaust on it either- They don't work. BMW spent a lot of money and many decades perfecting that inline 6; as said, just enjoy. And then, if you think it's not feelin' spry, then get a 550i .

There are aftermarket supercharger and turbo kits for the inline 6 engines. If you want to spend some bucks you could go that route. Better off getting the 535 which is turbo and all BMW. You can then tune that with cobb or whatever Oceans10 is using.

Super charger kit for a regular 530 would run over $10,000 installed. Nobody does that because it would be simpler to get a 550 or tune a 535.

Alpina makes the B5, which is an E60 with a 545 engine (4.8L V8). They add a super charger and intercooler to deliver 505 BHP and 500 lbs torque. I saw a video of one hitting 192 mph on the autobahn, with 4 adults and luggage. Radio was playing and they were chatting. What a beast of a car! Maybe ditch your 530 and get one of those!

If you're looking to get a little extra kick out of the 530, I'd recommend that you check out the BMS Powerbox tune. The BMS Power Box remaps the throttle mapping for better throttle response, and an increase in horsepower and torque. The Power Box features easy installation and removal, and gas pedal switching between 7 performance maps. The Power Box shows power gains from 8-10 horsepower and 8-10 Ft./Lbs. of torque at the rear wheels on a dyno! It's also pretty affordable and is definitely worth a try. I'll go ahead and drop you a pm with more details

It depends on the production month or: if you have the M54 motor, there is an ESS supercharcger kit for the E46 that can be converted to fit the E60. If you have the N52 motor, just get drop in filter and hold on!!!

I just installed a BMS power box on my 530i E60 and felt an immidiate effect. I am hoping after a few days it will erase the dead spot in 2nd gear that I have been experiencing. The install concept was easy but the cables are so tightly interwoven in the ECU box that it takes time to re-install them. Also be careful when pulling out the individual connections as I broke one connector off and had to walk to Auto store to get a new one.
