Thanks, I will keep an eye out, there are three PA modules on ebay UK at the moment, Do you still have a set of antennas ACE? I may be interested, looks like its going to run in at around 250 - 300 for a set of new antennas from the dealer. then just need to find some handles and a new key and get it programmed!

I have the four footwell antennas, CAS, DME and the Passive Go module $200 AUD plus postage = about 132 GBP plus postage

I'm happy it all worked out with the CAS. I suspected that would be the case and it's good that our logic followed through. I'm having some issues with my driver's door handle. Hopefully I can find a sapphire black one on eBay.

Hey ACE,

I didnt get some of your posts, the app on my phone was not updating properly earlier! I'm just posting to tie up loose ends...

Its line 3004 position 0, im sure you know that now though!

I notice you had 0x50 in position 0, rather than 0x11, translating this shows you have the following two options set:

PA_CONFIG_FBDLONG
PA_GETRIEBESPERRE_VR

DFEL750I had the first one too, not sure what they mean, second one is something to do with the gearbox park gear??, but german abbreviations make translation difficult! (PA I guess is passive access...VR???)

To maintain the original coding but just ADD comfort access you should have changed pos 0 from 0x50 to 0x51.

I have no idea what difference having the PA_GETRIEBESPERRE_VR option set does!?

How do I go about getting a comfort access key fob programmed to my car? Can the dealer do this with a used key?

I thought I saw a post from ACE saying PAPER had a DIY on key programming, I can't seem to find the DIY though...?

Hey PAPER, StuartJohn and DFEL750I....can you guys help me with some NCS info please?

I am retrofiiting FLA (Auto Highbeam) and Adaptive Headlights to my car.

Can you please look at the coding in the LM (Light Module) and see if you can find out what the codes are to change in the LM to activate FLA and Adaptive Headlights please.

I am going to try and find NCS and load it soo so I cna learn about it....... can you guys give me some pointers please?

Hey ace will have a look later for you, don't have my laptop with me at the moment.

One thing first... I managed to pull the door handles from the passenger front and rear doors... No harness for the CA, well at least nothing that can be seen/tucked away that would be accessible without removing the door card.

I do have soft close doors, what build date is your 7? Mine is one of the early ones, I received the original March 2002 price list brochure in the post today and CA was an option but not until June 2002 in the UK. I'm afraid as my car was built Nov 2001 the CA was not yet implemented or finalised and the door loom does not include the CA harness. Bummer! Bit of extra work!

Will have a look at wiring diagrams later, this may be too much hassle for me to retrofit if there is loads of bits missing from the looms.

Hi Stuart, it's OK. It is a very simple change to your existing door loom. Your door loom is actually in two pieces. One does all the door things, lock, windows, light, airbag etc....and then a small and seperate loom that plugs into that main loom in the door, is the one that will gives you CA and SC. Brand new they are $50 each, but I know you can get these from a Salvage yard in the US for $20 - $25 each.

Do you have the original LM fitted? And not the LM2?

A word of warning, myself and PAPER have both bricked out light modules whilst coding, the early ones are a bit sensitive, this was whilst changing the vehicle order code, it maybe something to do with that and normal coding for functionality may be ok.

Anyway I will have a look later, may take a little while it's a very big coding file! A lot more info in there than the MMI!

Thanks ACE! Looks like its not so bad after all! The CA bus goes to a terminal block under the dash, you have a RHD too, would all this still be wired to the door module? Does the door module just supply power to the handle and route the CA bus to the car wiring or does it do more than that? I.e. will the door module need changing or coding?

Wow taking those door cards off is a real PITA! Especially with rear blinds!

The PA Bus wire is just a feed from the Antenna (the door handle) that goes to the connector block. The door module does not supply power to the door handle. I do not believe any coding of the door module is required because only one part number is listed by BMW for all door modules since production 2001 to 2008

Hey ACE. This is the thread that started all the coding in here. There were links to download the INPA-NCS files but I do not see them in there any more. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...dows+up&page=3

I should have the files on my computer somewhere. They are too large to email but maybe we can upload it to a free FTP site if we can find one. I am not home but when I get home I can pull the coding from the LM module for you. I do have adaptive headlights in my car.

Once you get up and running on NCS is will be very easy to compare coding between two modules so we can easily see what the differences are in coding. There is a program built to compare 2 NCS coding files and show the difference.

My car has those and this is the original TRC file (before I disabled some canbus alarms, added double blink hazards and altered the turn signals to 6 )

ACE, Im 99% sure you need an LM2 to have the adaptive headlights (turn as you go round corners) there dont appear to be any parameters in the NCS coding files for this function, Mr Burger has the LM2 file posted up which is alot larger than the standard LMA file as it has loads more options for welcome lights, and settings for the adaptive head lights (steering wheel ratios etc...)

I picked my LM2 up for 65 here in the UK, its a generic module though, used on the 5 and 6 series, the module needs coding to the car as the lights are wired differently, the only way I managed to do this successfully was to allow NCS to code the module automatically using the vehicle order information.

I couldn't find anywhere in the coding file where you set what chassis its fitted to, it kept thinking it was in an E60, I would only get one indicator light and the rear fog lights were on instead of the rear markers/sides.

The only way to get it to work properly was to allow NCS to code it based on the vehicle order, i think you would struggle using dashsoft, there are loads of PWM values to set for the brightness of the LEDS in the lights etc... also the memory locations that hold the coding data are completely different between the old LMA and the new LM2, you wouldnt be able to copy stuff over very easily.

Once coded with NCS expert profile i then coded welcome lights and lights on via fob etc...

If you use NCS edit you VO in the CAS and LMA to add the options for adaptive headlights etc... and code it.

Hey ACE, that's a good start, you may be able to get away without using NCS then, the LM2 I got was from an E60 which caused most of my problems.

The only other thing is the LM is one of the modules that stores the vehicle order code, the other being the CAS. It's used by NCS and other diagnostic software to determine what modules are fitted. It's basically a string of numbers derived from the actual option codes when the car was first ordered.

I don't know what implications this will have for you, probably none if you just use dashsoft, 9 times out of 10 the vehicle order code is read from the CAS, the LM is just used as a backup copy. I guess these can be different and the car accept it?

You may be able to write this order code using dashsoft, I think having the correct VIN is the most important part.

I can help you with some of the coding if you wish, I bet adaptive headlights will already be coded of its from a facelift E66.

How's the CA coming along?

Looks like both door harnesses need to be changed for me! The main harness is specific to comfort access also,

What a disaster! According to the parts catalog mine should be wired for CA as the CA and soft close are the same harness!

ACE, where were the plugs when you removed the handle? Tucked away or taped to something? All I can see is this:


I will check WDS later and hope I can buy the pins/sockets and add the wiring to my harness, I don't fancy buying 8 harnesses at 40-50 each, let alone replacing them! Lol.

Stuart ........ It's not a disaster

I had exactly the same wiring in my doors as you have!

I only had to change the small additional loom that connects to the main door harness.......

That is what I have been doing today and everything is working fine

Stuart I bought all four door harnesses, main and supplementary for 125 GBP.... and I later learned I only needed the supplementary looms..... so you should be able to get all four for 60 GBP....

Ahh ok, what I was getting at was the main loom has a standard version and a version for CA and soft close.

I have soft close so technically I should have the main and supplementary looms specified for comfort close and CA.

But as I have already found out the supplementary loom which is supposed to have the CA wiring.... Hasn't!

What I'm getting at is what's to say the wiring for CA isn't in the main loom? And not missing like in the supplimenatry door loom?

I will pull the battery and check the connector pin out going from the door to the car body and see if the correct pin locations are populated.

Will report back later.

Just want to know how much work I'm letting myself in for lol!

Just checked WDS, As you know the CA handle has 4 wires, one of them is the PA Bus wire, this comes from the handle to the door module, via the internal PCB its then routed through to the main loom where it connects to the door/chassis connector.

Is this wire present in the standard door loom?

The other connections are GND, Hall sensor and the TAG signal, all three of these go into the door module. This has something to do with the comfort closing system I believe.

I cant see any coding parameters for CA in the door modules, which is good!
