Grumpy over production/delivery time

Ordered my 335i in mid-March.
Started production at the end of April.
Finished about 2wks later (mid-May).
Sat waiting for a boat until *end of June*.
On boat now until end of July.

Argh! None of my orders have every taken so long. Why would it sit on the dock for a month and a half!? Anyone know? Anyone else in the same predicament?

Just grumpy. #firstworldproblems

You are not alone, I'm in the same situation and equally as grumpy. 335 SA Build.

3/10 - Order Placed
3/26 - Production # Issued
5/12 - Production Begins
5/22 - Production Completes
5/29 - Released to Carrier
6/15 - Dispatched from AG
6/22 - In transit via Onyx Ace (MITSUI O.S.K. LINES)

1st world problems indeed.

I would be pissed to...here was my timeline (which I attribute to good timing and going through a high volume dealership):

5/18/12, Order Placed
5/21/12, Production Started
5/30/12, Production Complete
6/8/12, Loaded onto Vega Leader (in Bremerhaven)
7/2/12, Arrived at Port Hueneme
7/10/12, Appointment for delivery at Crevier BMW

By contrast, my wife's Audi that we ordered earlier in the year took about 3.5 months to get and that was definitely starting to feel long. Hang in there...its rough right now but it will be worth it soon enough...

Was your car a SA Build ? That will always take at least a month longer. Hang in there, it will be here soon.

Congrats on the fast turnaround time, under 2 months. How was Crevier to deal with? They used to be family owned, and I understand that they are now Owned by Penske Automotive , which also owns BMW of San Diego. We have had great sales and service from BMW of San Diego, I hope the same now that Crevier is a more corporate owned Store. Enjoy your new Bimmer, see you on the 405 ! Watch out for CHP's

I know someone who works at the dealership so I didn't go the traditional salesman route. That said, he has been awesome to work with so far!

I feel your pain

Best explanation I've gotten is that this is a new platform and they are working out the kinks.

03/25 Ordered 2012 335i sportline
06/15 Finally get a production number
07/01 Still not in production!!!!!!
07/02 Order disappears from the system and new order needs to be placed.
07/03 Production started but now it is a 2013 MY.

Needless to say I sent a ton of emails over those almost 4 months without a production number to watch.

I'm remaining patient because there is no other choice, no car compares for the price. I don't fit into the S4 and Acura / Lexus / Infiniti do not appeal to me in the least.

Important to note that I had to order because I will not drive a car with less than 3 pedals.

Hmmm, wonder if your order got hijacked and given to someone else? Could possibly happen if the order number did not indicate it was a customer order instead of a dealer order?

I know how you feel. I placed my order around the time you did and was quoted 8-10 weeks lead time. Thought I would take delivery by end of May, but didn't pick it up until last week. Never did get a good explanation about why it took so long, but I just chalked it up to new production kinks. You'll forget about the wait once you're behind the wheel, though.

Takes a while for cars to ship from SA since they have to build up a load of cars heading to the US to fill the ship. This, plus the longer transit time, is typically why dealers avoid using SA allocations for sold orders unless they absolutely must.

Ah, building up enough cars for a shipment, that makes some sense I guess. Yeah, pretty sure it was an SA build because all the Germany ones were taken.

I ordered March 27th, car completed production June 18th, and now, nobody knows where it is or can tell me when it will be here. I'm grumpy too. BUT,..there are a lot of worse spots to be in than living in the greatest country on earth while waiting for your brand new BMW. If we could only all be so lucky
