330i ZHP, no fold down seats!!

I met my dream car, 330i ZHP. But it lacks the Premium Pkg, fold-down rear seats. The dealer's offering it to me at $39,300. It has:

Mystic Blue Metallic / Grey Montana
6 speed manual transmission
Performance Package
On-board nav
Leather
Power Glass Moonroof
Xenon Headlights (not adaptive)
Heated Front Seats (don't care too much about this, I am in CA!)
Aluminium Silver Cube Interior Trim

The interior mirror does not auto-dim. That's coz it doesn't have the premium pkg. How much of an inconvenience is it, not having fold down seats? Is it possible to make changes and get the seats to fold down after buying the car? If the seats were foldable, I would buy this baby _now_!

Thanks.

not possible to add fold down but w/o fold down will give you a very stiff chassis

I was thinking more along the lines of: is it an inconvenience to have seats that do not fold down as the trunk is small (10.7 cu ft)?

I wouldn't worry about the fold down seats. First of all, how often are you going to have to use the fold down feature. I have it in my current car, and I don't use it more than once a year. Second, even if you do have the fold down feature, how often are you really gonna want to use it in a bmw? If I have to use it, I'll probably just call a friend with a pickup or sport utility.

It sounds like you found exactly the car you want at a very good price; I'd go for it...

Depends on what you need it for? I really miss the fold down seats from my Audi, my road bike just fit perfectly in there, I'm a bit screwed at the moment, need to get a roofrack or something

You can't really change it, if you look in the trunk you'll see part of the bodywork there, it stiffens up the chassis considerably. I remember something like 18000Nm for the no fold down vs 13000Nm fold down in the E46.

ZHP-equipped 330s cannot be optioned with the premium package....
Will never/rarely use fold down rear seats... If you haven't found a use for them yet, then you probably wouldn't need them. Maybe if you had them you could find a use, but if you don't then why worry yourself?

My Acura Integra GS-R has a fold down rear seat and I've thanked it for every IKEA trip, when I bought my bike, when we got moved, when we have too much luggage, etc, etc. Plus we're planning on keeping the BMW for more than 5 yrs... that means kids, parents visiting, etc, etc...

Thanks

Exactly.

If you are keeping the Integra, I wouldn't worry about the fold down seats. If not, like someone else has already mentioned, you can rent or borrow a truck/SUV.

It's a bit more expensive than the fold down seat option, but spend 2 grand or so for a beater - for something completely impractical, it's far more practical. And once you have a beater, you'll never know how you lived without it. People regularly say you use the fold-down's a few times a year. You'll find many more reasons to use the pickup, though it's not for the driving pleasure......

But this would mean I would have to divert 2k from my wheel stash

Actually the beater is the way I am looking this fall

I've wondered about this. Does anyone make a removable brace to regain some of the stiffness lost from the folding seats? If nobody does, they should.

One other problem with fold-down seats: they can be the source of creaks, rattles, and all manner of sound annoyances. I thought I needed fold-down seats too, went out of the way to get them on my last three cars. When I realized that I probably used them less than a handful of times a year -- even less now that our second car is a SUV -- I went out of my way this time to get a car without them. I ordered heated seats (a must have) without the cold weather package because I didn't want the fold-down seats.

Make a list of all the reasons you would use a fold-down seat. If you bike on the weekends, you could get a bike rack. The golf clubs are a separate issue. You could throw them in the back seat, but this is not easy. If you need the fold down wait for another car.
You can get a 2K pick up but that also means having some place to put it, insurance, maintenance, ect. It adds up! ... Less to spend on mods for the ZHP.
THe mirrow is not an issue. Plenty of recent threads on this. The car otherwise souds like it has what you want and I think the price is good. How much over invoice is it?

You can add fold down rear seats as an option. I think it runs approx $400.

That's one reason to avoid owning a pickup/suv. Everyone calls you to help.

I would call a cab/rent a truck. Do it yourself instead of being a dependent.

i do find the fold downs useful since it's my only vehicle other than my bicycle. i doubt an add on brace would bring back the same stiffness of not having the fold downs though.

Right, I thought you were refering to it not being available as an option. My bad.

I'm very independent (hate asking for favors), but that's what friends are for. You help each other out. My real friends know they can call me anytime for anything, and I can count on them too. Life would be pretty sad if it didn't work that way...

You could try asking for option code 465 - "Through Loading System". This is what BMW calls fold-down rear seats in Anglophone markets, when specified as a separate option. You never know .
