i am open to any suggestion that will get BMW to listen.
This very issue was reported in the F10 forum and BMW supplied a fix.
If they can fix it on the F10 why not the F07???

interesting that with cooler weather not as bad on the reving, not sure why but feel like a call to dealer is a waste of my time.
i made a dvd of the car violently reving and gave it to the dealership; would be happy to participate in any mass mail to BMW.

Adding Rattle to the Reving--now to BMW corporate

Adding a rattle to my woes of reving.
Have had it for several months but kept getting worse.
This rattle is coming from the rear, at low speed before the car downshifts. So 'lugging' a gear will make it happen.
Replicated the rattle for service tech; shop kept the car 24 hrs and it rattled on the way home.
Took it back today and the shop foreman got in the car, listened for 20 seconds, did not replicate the problem but he began to rant about not being able to fix the problem. Will have to involve BMW.....GREAT will make sure the idle reving that still exists makes the list as well.

Gotta say, little pissed at BMW at this point. Not happy that a car of this price and quality is delivering these problems.
Still not happy with low speed surge; will make sure I throw that in as well.

Time will tell, will keep you up to date on BMW rep visit.

Update on factory rep visit

Rep rode in the car and heard rattle, got out kicked the muffler with me and shop foreman in car. We could hear the rattle. He got back in and said replace muffler, if it requires ordering both, replace both with hangers, NUFF said, kinda like him.
Did get in a sideways glance at Mr Rude shop foreman...

Did not have good news on the idle surge--reving.
Basically said I was at the mercy of the software guys in Germany...oh well.
Sad to say BMW will not fix what I consider a safety issue.
Will gladly help anyone that can assist with getting the attention of the correct people.

Thanks for the report, sorry to hear they wont do anything about the surging idle. Ours does the same after its been driven and you restart. My first service will be in Feb, does not sound like they will come up with a fix by then.

Unhappy Good to hear there is another owner with same issue

This issue now has at least 3-4 owners with same issue.
I pointed this out to the Factory Rep but did not help much.
Every time I go in i will askd for update list and see if Idle surge is on the list.
i have also sent mail to local dealer with issue and the fact that this is a SAFETY issue.
Very, very sad that BMW is ignoring customers and safety issues.
I am a 1st time BMW owner, may very well be my last.

On another note...muffler on order will let all know if that stops the ratttle. Again, took 4 trips to get that done!!!!!

If anyone's surging problem is bad enough to actually create a safety hazard, then report it to the feds. They'll look into it, and if valid, potentially force a recall. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

Mine seems more of an occasional annoyance, but mine may not be as bad as yours or happen as often.

I was about to call for a oil change. I'll tell them of my surging issue. I'll be using the same dealer for service that Skime219 did.

Same issue with engine rev while idle

I am a new owner to the BMW world. I have also been experiencing this rev of the engine in the morning when I start the car and when I get in at the end of the day at work. Took it to the dealer today in North part of ATL and they suggested using 91 octane gas. I have been using the reccomended 89 octane as shown on the fuel door of my 2012 535 GT. I googled the octane question and saw most reccomending the use of the 91 octane, but not connected with this issue. I have nop problems using the 91, but am interested if this could actually be the root cause.

Don't think it's an octane thing, since I pretty much exclusively use premium and it happens to me on occasion (not always). FWIW, while the vehicle will run on regular, to do that without damaging the engine, it decreases the power available. As a result, it doesn't run quite as efficiently. So, for saving the money at the pump, you pay at least some of that back by decreased fuel economy. Running around town at lower speeds, you may not notice, but it does make a difference.

Sorry I did not update, had the oil change done back in March or April. Reported the issue with surging idle, they did some reprogram and I've run some BG fuel cleaner thru and have not had the issue since.

We have always ran premium fuel in ours.

Good to see we still have activity on this issue.
Arrived back from HK a month ago, was picked up by wife in the GT and was very much looking forward to driving for the 1st time in 4 months.
Got in, fired her up and ... yep, idle surge. Lovely.

The problem has continued since my initial return. I run nothing but premium and 90% of the time Standard fuel.
Have not tried a fuel treatment but will give that a try.
Do plan on getting another Vid and sending to local dealer to open the case again with notes that this is a safety issue; what would happen if I put the car in gear without waiting for it to 'settle down"?
Will update after fuel treatment.

Surging Issues

Hey guys/gals!

First time posting here. We currently own a 2010 550 GT. Have had it for 2yrs and absolutely love the car in almost every aspect. As far back as July 2012 the car has had a surging issue. I have taken it to the dealership multiple times with no success. There are no codes stored and they cannot seem to recreate it.

This last time it happened while backing into garage and the car ended up being one with the garage trim. Needless to say I was not a very happy camper.

ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am losing my mind and am now not wanting to pick it up fromt he dealership

I will add that we have owned 13 BMWs ranging from a 3 convertible to the 750i and have never had an issue like this or where they could not have figured a problem out...

CK post #9 and my post 17 on resetting the tranny.
Best of luck, I took the SIBs from Post #9 to dealer and no help.
Resetting tranny seemed to help...or I have learned how to roll a stop sign without getting a down shift.

I have an 2011 550 GT and a similar problem. It has been at the dealers a few times and each time they replaced a bunch of parts. They have replaced the injectors 3 times. Duplicating the problem is easy so they experienced it. It has been in the shop for about a week so far and now they have a call in to have the regional person look at it. He should be in tomorrow.

I must give my dealer credit. They are not letting the car go while it still has an issue. It really makes me feel good that they are trying. I have a loaner so its not a big deal. I had a MB and their service was terrible. They only went by computer codes. BMW, at least my dealer, goes by what you tell them. I don't know if this is what all BMW dealers do since this is my first BMW. But I will definitely buy another. Especially from this dealer.

I hope to get it back in a few day's but told them to take their time. I have confidence that they will do the right thing. My guess is that it's a mechanical issue since they have checked other cars with the same readings but the others don't exhibit the same problem.

I'll keep you updated.

Got the car back today and it seems to be fixed. A bunch of stuff was replaced including the fuel injectors (third time) oxygen sensors and they removed the transmission and found the rear seal leaking oil and replaced it. According to the repair order the rear seal was the problem. Don't know how that is but that's what it says. I'll know more tomorrow when I take it to work and its cold.
