Did BMW make electric seats for a 99 323is?

Like the title says im just wondering if they did since I am thinking about switching out the manuals ones for electric if they exist at all.

yes however you'll need to do some custom wiring to get power to the seats.

The way I see it, there is no point in doing this conversion. Electric seats are heavier, and would have to be wired up to a car which wasn't intended to have them, and it's just one more thing to fail down the road. Manual seats are best.

they can still get in the back... just tell them to either:
A) sit behind the passenger or
B) chop their legs off

If you're looking to swap for the same seats you have or regular E36 sport seats, I would suggest just keeping the manual ones. The swap isn't too difficult, but like Karl said, the electric seats are heavier and might even sit higher, and if you're tall you know how limited headroom is in the E36.

However, the E46 330i premium package seats came with adjustable lumbar support, which is an aaamazzing creature comfort to have, and some of the E46 M seats were optioned with adjustable bolsters so you can fine tune how wide the seat is around your hips. The install is a full day job but its really not terribly difficult. I've got a DIY on it here.

Click the imgur link above the photo for a ton of more detailed photos.

From what I've seen the E46 seats are fairly inexpensive. The 330i seats are $3-500 depending on condition when they show up for sale. The M3 seats are $500-750 depending on condition.

I got mine for $500 out of a soon-to-be race car with 100k on it, they aren't perfect but are easily in 9/10 condition. They have some very minor cracking on the outside bolsters of either seat, and the leather in the bottom of the driver's seat and around the bottom bolster is a little loose.
