After reading posts like these, I don't know what to think.
So the past couple of weeks I've been looking around because I was/am thinking about getting an 2007 e92 335i . One question I have is, why are all the cars in the classifieds section (even on e90post.com) all like 2007 or 2008 model years? I'm guessing because the extended warranties are about to finish, and people aren't planning on keeping them. I understand the fact that 335's probably aren't the most reliable compared to honda/toyta/infiniti, but they can't be so much worse. As far as I know the most expensive maintence is probably going to be the brake job ($1500 dealer prices/ 700-1000 indy shop). Anyway, my plan is to get a 2007 335 (well aware of the hpfp problems, but it seems to be taken care of by the 10year/100k warranty). My daily drive is CA-17 (Wiki CA-17) so I was attracted the handling of the 328i. After reading 328/335 comparisons I'm leaning towards 335's. I plan on keeping it forever (CA-17 driving is just for 2 more years). I've thought about leasing, but the depreciation seems a bit excessive to me, I'd rather get an older year and put money into maintenance. Should I go through with it? If not what alternatives that have comparable handling/power. Some recommend 'stang but I don't really like it. I'd still prefer a 328 to a g35. I like the s2k option. I'm not so much into the BMW name, I just respect the performance aspect. I'm considering: http://www.toyotamarin.com/used/BMW/2007-BMW-335-bay-area. This is hitting the top of my price range. Don't plan on modding for another 2-3 years. No point in getting a $3k warranty for an 2007 e92. This kinda sounds like a 4chan post, but I'm just looking for advice.

older, cheaper, out of warranty, lease returns, 07 most likely saw nearly 2 calendar years of sale, thus more supply.

Older body style as-well (can't really tell between an 09-11) is another reason

Turbos mean trouble.
Turbos mean trouble.
You get performance but you pay for it in maintenance costs. All the extra hardware associated with turbos and the turbos themselves are under high stress. Some where in the life of a turbo car the turbo hardware will have to be replaced. Also direct injection has a big flaw that allows carbon build up on the valves. None of these problems are exclusive to BMW . I used to commute 17 myself for 21 years the second time. It was a blast in the e46 it was nice I could do it in off hours with no traffic. Your location must be Santa Cruz if you are driving 17. Last edited by ctuna; 07-10-2012 at 09:13 PM. |

I heard some sort of "financial crisis" hit in 08 that affected car sales.

Funny, I ordered my Vehicle in late summer '08 dead in the middle of the Financial Crisis. It's a keeper, NA motor, still unsure of my next BMW, as it looks as if they will ALL come with turbos.
Back to subject, 2007, last year of pre LCI and a good bet is that there are many 60 month loans coming to term.

Why so many 2007's? Because people would rather pay many thousands of dollars for a new car, and tax on a new car, and interest on a new car, and depreciation on a new car than spend a couple of thousand dollars on maintenance. 2007's are out of warranty so the first bill people get for repairs they panic and trade it in.
Just my thoughts.... |

2007 E92 335i Coupe is great!
My low mileage BMW 6mt, sports, premium, nav, leather is fabulous, and every day I drive it I thank myself! Best all-round pratical performance car. Only maintenance issues I have ever had are 2 runflats replaced due to sidewall bubbles, not cheap, 3 rims repaired, and 2 front end alignments with 18 inch wheels, also not cheap. This is the only real flaw: vulnerability to pothole damage, in an otherwise great vehicle. And I will not get the 2014 F33 replacement, as is will be 3.9 inch longer, heavier, with EU spec tech that is worthless, essentially same engine, worse, i.e. non-hydraulic steering, etc. So go for it!
