Up coming diesel vehicles

Just took ownership via European Delivery on a F-30 335i during the last week of May and my vehicle has just passed through Customs and VDC. Already planning for choice of next model to lease in 34 months from now. My question is : what is coming 'down the pike' in terms of diesel vehicles from BMW for US delivery. I recently read a review about a five series they have been working on and it's torque at 2000 RPM's is totally mind blowing ! Any certain confirmations out there ?

Most diesel's produce a good amont of torque at low RPM. That's one of their main advantages. The "M550d" won't be offered here (quite sad) but utilizes a "parallel - series" turbo setup. So for the I-6 engine, it's optimum from an air flow and cylinder scavenging point of view to provide a single turbocharger for each three cylinders. this is being done with this unit, and these two are HP or High Pressure turbos. These then feed into a Low Pressure unit that is situated below the HP's and main exhaust manifold. By the plumbing diagrams I've observed, the actual "air inlet" is situated in the LP turbo's inlet, thich then feeds the HP turbo (s). This is how a Series system works, it's the exact opposite of the exhaust side.

Much as I may like this, I would not want to own that car out of warranty. And - why must we have AWD anyway? I would vastly prefer the simplicity of RWD only.

No confirmations, but the good news is that the emission standards for Europe and N America will be in closer alignment in 2014. This means that it probably won't take a bunch of extra engineering to get a BMW (or any other Euro diesel) to pass the Tier 2 bin 5 standards- as was necessary for the 2009-11 335d and the 2009-present X5 xDrive 35d. Fact is those SCR/urea systems will be on most of the diesels, so that is one less hurdle to getting them over here. The other impetus is the CAFE increase that is kicking in. As much as they've made improvements in thei Efficient Dynamics approach, BMW will surely need to help the fleet average with more diesel offerings.

I'm hopeful for the F30/31 320d or 330d. 535d would be fantastic too

UPDATE: BMW spokesman Dave Buchkow has confirmed above report telling AutoGuide that, “the next BMW Advanced Diesel engine that will come to the US is the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. Specific timing and model applications will follow.”

Unfortunately, nothing in the Diesel Driver article indicates it will come in the wagon.

They're being pretty vague on which platforms will receive the diesel engiens right now.

It isn't confirmed but the rumors I hear indicate it will come to the wagon.
