NEWBIE! Advice on 318 m sport touring

Afternoon all, i'm after some advice from you all....

My wifes got a new job and has lost her old company car and we need to replace it quick!

We're going to look at a 2004 BMW M sport 318 (2.0) Touring (70k on the clock) on sat morning and was just after and useful info / things to look out for etc.

Orignally thought about a 320d but was scared off by reported problems with turbo's, injectors, intake manifolds splitting and terminating the engine etc. The 318 offered surprisingly good official figures for mpg so we've been looking for one of those.

Basically we were after a decent sized, good looking estate for sub £5k that wasnt a run of the mill mondeo or vectra! In a perfect world the 330i would be my choice but i already own 2 other toys so the wife simply wouldnt have it! We have a 9month old too so boot space and boot loading access is king! (god i must be getting old, never thought i'd be comparing literage at the wrong end of the car!) so the 318 seems to offer a good compromise for everything...

only experience of a BMW was her previous 116i which was HUGELY underpowered but a nice car non the less (i actually took it back to sytner and said something must be wrong as its so sluggish - guy just looked at me as if i was taking the pee!) She likes the look of them and wanted something a bit bigger and with a bit more poke. Oh and my dads 1970ish 2002 tii - lovely.

Any info / links to useful buying guides would be great, thanks in advance!

Cheers..

Read the E46 Wiki (link at the top of this page)

Just be aware that this is a US-based forum, and we never got many of the models over here which are so common in the EU....(i.e., no diesels, etc.)
