NItto Motivo Review
I was selected for the Nitto Motivo tire review. Nitto will send me a set to test, and I will provide my thoughts about the tires . My BMW 545i has the Sport Package, and I am currently running Yokohama high performance summer tires on it. These tires are not very worn, but I welcome the chance to try a new product. I am very anxious to see how the Motivos respond in all climates, as they are billed as a performance all season tire.
The Nitto tires arrived at my house on a Thursday. I did not have a chance to get them mounted until the following Saturday, two days ago. An excellent local independent tire shop mounted and balanced the new Nittos and performed a 4 wheel alignment. I have only driven about 20 miles on them so far, but I have some first impressions. First of all, they are very quiet. Most new tires will be quieter than worn tires, but I did notice this immediately. I like the look of the tread pattern, but not sure about the sidewall. I prefer a more “squared look” for the sidewall. Probably not something most people will notice/care about. The ride was definitely softer as well, probably as these are an all season tire versus the dedicated summers that I had just removed. Again, not sure how I feel about that until I have a chance to see how they perform in a spirited driving situation. I’m looking forward to getting some seat time with these tires. I’ll update as I have more feedback to share.

Dang... I wanted to test those too. It doesn't matter, I am going to buy a staggered set in Aug/Sept timeframe anyway. Look forward to your comments on these. I was hoping to get a free set to play with. My Nitto 555s are going bald.

Okay,
About 2K on these now. Definately more squirm than my Yokohamas. Definately more trammeling on concrete highways. Great in the rain, but I would have returned these had they not been free. Just not a true performance tire for my Sport Suspension setup. I would love these tires on my allroad or my wifes R350.

That is a bummer. I was so looking forward to a favorable review on these. What is the size of your front and back tires. I have 20 in wheels so I will take a lower profile sidewall tire, which may eliminate some of the "squirm." I still may try these out. Michelin Sports are just too expensive and I don't need that much grip for my driving style.

Ordered a set for my 535xi. It's not set up with a Sport Package and I mainly just use to car to commute, no tracking. I will update here after I have them on for a few thousand miles to see what they do for everyday driving.

Well, here is my update. I have several thousand miles on them now (5500). I must say I am really impressed with the tires. We've had more snow here in KC in the past 2 months than I can remember, with 16" and 13" getting dropped back to back, and these tires just ate through it without a hiccup. Got into work early so I beat the first snow, but afterwards headed home in some really bad conditions and these tires kept me grounded and going straight. Rain is also not an issue, they handle great. I don't track my car, but when I take turns they keep a solid feel.
For everyday driving these are great tires. Worth the money, and it helps they are some of the cheaper priced UHP tires too. Last edited by landsharklager; 04-05-2013 at 06:40 AM. |
