Hey everyone I've searched all over the internet for information on a few things i had trouble figuring out with the headlight swap and i've got it all but one. I bought the dj auto angle eye headlights for the e36 and a few things had to be modified but last of all the wiring harness for the hid bulb has four wires black and red that lead to a plug and two small black and read that lead to male ends. I'm unsure where to put these male ends as there is only one yellow wire with a female end and two brown wires which are grounded to the metal part of the lamp. any help here? or possibly point me in the right direction?

Thanks, I did see that but my issue is finding an accurate wiring diagram for all of the plugs used in DDM's DJ Auto HID enclosures and their HID bulbs.
The enclosures have the plug and play harness attached, so there are two connectors coming from that harness out of the back of the enclosures, black & white ones. From the wiring showing, I can see one is for the high beams and the other is from the low beams. When you open up the low beam dust cover to modify the lamp holder to fit the xenon bulbs, which you would think would be predone if DDM is selling them as HID enclosures, I can't see where/if I connect the two spade connections (power & ground, black & red) within the bulb holder itself. Once the above is figured out, you then have the two AMP connections coming from the bulb which plug into the ballast. There is also another black connector coming from the bulb. Does that connect to the other connection on the ballast? If it does, does the factory wiring low beam connector connect up to the appropriate connector on the plug & play harness, or do I have those backwards? (Factory connection to ballast and black connector from HID bulb to the plug & play connector?) I'm at work, but if I need to take pictures I can do that. I looked at the DDM DIY instructions for the headlights and all of this is not noted. I looked at the HID kit instructions and I think what I have above is correct, but would like some confirmation before I try to tackle the job. Thanks! |

Here goes...
The yellow wire with the female blade connecter inside the headlight connects to the red male blade connecter on the HID wires. The brown wire with the female blade connecter inside the headlight connects to the black male blade connecter on the same HID wires. NOTHING needs to be connected to the two blade tabs on the metal plate. The other two plugs on the HID wires connect to the two matching plugs on the ballast. The other plug (the only one left) which is one plug but has two contacts in it, also connects to the matching ballast plug. It looks like it's a loop, but it's not. Power from the car comes in from OEM headlight plug into the main plug in the center of the headlight (yellow and brown wires) then it goes to the yellow and brown wires you connected to the HID wires earlier. They go back outside the headlight through those two plugs and into the ballast, then back through the last plug and light up the HID. It's annoying to figure out, but it does a good amount of electrical common sense. Last edited by Jakobie1086; 12-17-2012 at 02:24 PM. |

Everything worked out well! Lights are in and properly wired up, so thanks for helping clear the fog out of my brain...
The other good tip was to use a heat gun to soften up the rails that the corner light slides into so they wouldn't break. Cold they were slightly tilted and probably would have broken. Heated up they were flexible and made it much easier to slide the corners in without any problems. Had to relocate the horn on the passenger side, too. Wouldn't fit with the larger/longer dust cover on the HID enclosure. Lights much better than stock discolored plastic lens halogen lights! |

Have to agree that the instructions from DDM are non existant! However, it does not take too long to figure it out. I like the results. I got the same headlights with thinlines and 6000K/55W lights. I very much like the results.

I should rephrase, the instructions have a lot of holes in it.

They should combine or cross reference the H1 install kit instructions with the enclosure install instructions, and then add in more detail. |

Just the info that I have been looking for. I've had a set sitting in my garage for over a year without installing them because I haven't had the time to figure this wiring dilemma. Hopefully this will help.

Guess this is what is left to wire up? I take it one splices into the existing cables/wiring?

Those just plug in to the high and low beam connectors on your car.

Exactly, they don't actually really go to anything. I left mine unplugged for forever IIRC.

If you leave them unplugged your OBC will bitch at you when you turn your lights on. Mine does and I ignore her!

Hey guys finally got the kit installed. I've run into some trouble with making sure I wired it correctly. I haven't permanently secured anything yet, such as the ballast and wiring. First thing was there was that grey wire, I couldn't figure what it was for. Ground wire? Secondly the ballast box has that part of the housing that looks like another connector goes to it, was I supposed to connect something there? When I fired the regular low beam lights on they didn't turn on...the high beam lights seem to work fine. Any ideas what might be the problem. I bought the complete plug n play kit from Ddm tuning and wouldn't think it would be missing the bulbs or something.
Sent from my EVO using Bimmer App **EDIT...Finally got them going! Guess that other extra connector was for something else and I was supposed to wire the stock low beam harness directly to the ballast box! No error codes and everything works fine! Last edited by tomas3314; 03-31-2013 at 10:24 AM. |

IIRC the grey wire is for the angel eyes. Did you purchase them with your set up?

Just kept it simple, lol. No AE. Thanks for all the info and support. Car finally got a face lift. After painting the whole car, it was all that was left to do. Had to get a new supercharger intake tube to make it fit.
