Clutch start switch issue

I was installing some new speakers in my 1998 M3 and while I had some of the interior parts off I decided to go ahead and override the plunger style switch that must be depressed with the clutch before the engine will start. I wired the purple/white wire to the brow/black and go to start my car and nothing happens... I had done this on another E36 and my old E39 and it always worked. This time it isnt working, and also I tried hooking it back up as usual and it wont start. No crank, nothing. Stereo works, lights work and are bright. I dont get what could have happen, if anyone has any ideas I appreciate it.

Not sure if it would make a difference, but I did just replace the drivers door handle assembly. I only have 1 key, I have hooked the switch back up, tried leaving the battery unhooked for a while and I'm getting the Same results. I have a friend with a high end scan tool that I'm going to
Hook up to it and see what it says because my obd2 code reader isn't turning anything up, nore is my peake scan tool. My e39 once "immobilized" itself for some reason while I was out of town(car was at home). When I came back it wouldn't start, same symptom. Hooked up the scan tool and cleared a security code and it started up. I'm hoping that is the issue here, I just don't understand why it happens.

Check your fuses. You wired a signal wire to ground, but if it was a power line, it would have blown a fuse. Do you have the wiring diagrams for the E36? Do a search and you should find them if not.

After digging around and what not I found a random small fuse that I couldnt even tell was blown when I removed it, it was for the ext temp, which doesnt work anyways because my sensor is missing at this junction. I thought maybe this is why it says -35 outside all the time. swapped the fuse and she started. Guess I was just overwhelmed with possibilities and needed to take a step back. Thanks for the reply. As of today she is up and running again.
