On the Onyx Ace - 8/16 Arrival

My car is on the Onyx Ace from SA and is due into Port Heuneme on 8/16. My question being, according to Marinetracker the vessel is midway up the Baja Peninsula and based on it's current velocity, it's due in Oxnard tomorrow. Does anyone know if the cargo ships carrying BMW's stop in LA on the way up the coast? Do the ships ever run ahead of schedule? Seems like they'd have a pretty good idea of transit times so my guess is that they must offload other cargo in LA before moving up the coast to Oxnard.

The next port of call scheduled for the Onyx is LA's LongBeach. This is not a WW ship, so it might be carrying other cars and cargo in addition to BMW's. This would account for the extra day before arriving at Port Hueneme. All the WW ships to Port Hueneme don't seem to stop at Long Beach.

Thanks for the clarification. I did see that the next destination was US LGB and figured that was the Long Beach Port. The must be killing time at the moment, because they stopped midway up the peninsula and turned around. At last check they were doing .7 knots headed back south. I assume they are just waiting for the ports to clear out or something? Seems like a waste of time and money.

Not that I haven't been tracking it on my own, but I got a call today from my CA that my car had arrived in Port today and would be at the dealer in 5-6 days. My question being how does it get from the Long Beach port to the VPC in Oxnard? According to marinetracker, the vessel is still moored in LB. Do they truck it up to Oxnard for prep?

I would ass.u.me that it would be trucked rather than railed - didn't see any rail lines close to the Oxnard VDC when we did the tour. The Onyx probably also had MBZ cars on board since they have a prep center at San Pedro close to Port Long Beach which is why the ship stopped there.

I believe for "BMW" the Port of Entry for the West Coast is only Hueneme and not the Port of Long Beach. Many of the Japanese importers use Port of Long Beach not BMW. The Port of Entry will be stated on the Vehicle Inquiry report the dealer has access to and you can ask for. In other words, not likely be taken off the ship in Long Beach and trucked or railed to Oxnard. I do not know for sure; but that is my current understanding.

They must also come in through Long Beach as well, because the MyBMW site lists my car at the VPC for "finishing touches."

When I last checked the Onyx yesterday, it was headed out to Japan, not up to Hueneme, so it must have unloaded some bimmers at long beach together with the MBZ cars.

Found this on the web under military purchase that was posted in the BMW website. Not sure whether it is only for military purchases and specific the BMW port of entry for that type of purchase:

"The BMW Shipping Program offers various ports in the US. The current Ports of Entry are as follows: Newark NJ, Baltimore MD, Charleston SC, Brunswick GA, and Port Hueneme CA."

Anyways, hope you get your ride as soon as possible. Good luck.

I agree; I couldn't find anything substantial about BMW using the Long Beach Port but according to the Operator's (Mitsui O.S.K. Line) vessel schedule, the destinations all match up the typical BMW port calls. After Long Beach, the next destination is listed as Yokohama. Maybe exceptions are made every once in awhile if ports are busy/full?

Funny thing I found on the BMW Military delivery details is that the Port Heuneme's office address is in Long Beach.
