Unhappy Jon's didn't make it

I'm feeling sorry for Jon Shafer, our Bimmerfest founding father...his just missed the Tomar. Was hoping his would also be on the same boat, but it looks like he'll be on the Mignon instead.

Aw shucks... Don't feel bad for me...

I'll still be driving my supercharged M3 with a big silly-ass grin on my face...

Cool A date with destiny...

This thread got me thinking, so I decided to pour through my oldest digital files... As AndDown has pointed out, my 335i is likely going to travel here aboard the vessel Mignon. Now, I've been looking at Wallenius vessel names for over 15 years, but for some reason, when he said that, it was sort of like "Deja Vu all over again".. And for good reason: 12 years ago -- the last time that I order a new 3 Series for myself -- guess which vessel it arrived on? That's right, the Mignon.. Today's DCS printouts look a little different than the old days. Sorry for the poor quality...

Amazing to think that my 328Ci was barely 2 weeks old when I presented the very first BIMMERFEST event in April of 2000...

Pictures and details of the Mignon - it was built in 1999, so was only one year old when it delivered your 328Ci:

This is also the time that the phone system and website show "your vehicle is en-route to the US". I wonder if the trigger for the en-route status is when the next destination is in the Americas (ship has departed final European port).

confirmed

The W&W site says my vehicle made it on the Tomar
The BMW Phone center says it is "in transit".
My CA sent a status report that says the same.

I guess it's true. My vehicle is on the Tomar. ETA in Hueneme around August 08. After waiting what seems like forever, if the boat doesn't sink it will be here soon.

Please don't jinx the boat! I'm going to have to do my one legged ritual dance to unjinx this!

Unable to track the TOMAR

I was able to follow the Tomar for awhile today with MarineTraffic.com until it stopped showing up on the screen. It there another way to track it until it gets closer to the Panama canal?

I've tried using http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/search.phtml but it only shows leaving Southampton. Apparently, this site only shows ships participating in the voluntary at-sea weather reporting. Not aware of another tracking site unless another fester has more info.

OK, thanks. Guess we'll just have to wait until it gets to the canal.

If I recall, you also ordered your car through Jon Shafer...when do you plan on picking up your car? I'm planning on picking mine up on Saturday, 8/18 since both my wife and I work during the week and we'll have to take a train up to Santa Barbara. Was hoping to pick it up on 8/11 but Jon advises to play it safe and plan to pick up the following Saturday.

No, I tried to but he didn't have an available production slot for a 335i. I ordered from a dealer local to me here in SoCal.

That info is a couple of day old. Out of range of AIS. Zoom out in Marine Traffic and you can see the green rectangular coverage grid.

When it gets closer to the Panama canal around the 30th we can see it again. Unless you know of another tracking site?

Sadly I don't, and around the time it is getting unloaded and prepped in CA I will be departing to Kona Hawaii for a week of well earned rest and relaxation. So I should probably stop worrying about it.

There's even a tiny chance that it will be waiting for me when I return around August 17th.

That's about 10 days after arriving in Hueneme. I'd say the chances are good for a simultaneous arrival around the 17th.

Yeah, 8 or 9 days. . . And at least after this sighting we know it's still orange side up.
