Smile Officially reached 300,000 miles, and I'm happy about it!!

This thread just goes to show you that these cars are built to last. I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. My next expense on my car will be an extensive service to get everything in order before I buy more aesthetic mods. She deserves this much, especially after this milestone and the fact that I've had little to no problems for a very long while now. Still running like a dream and I hope to keep her on the road for as long as is possible. For the non-believers, proof is attached below

Have you done any engine internals? Rings, bearings, chain guides, etc?

Have you owned the car since new?

Are the miles a mix, or mostly highway?

You must follow a rigorous maintenance schedule.

Congrats!

Thanks guys! @edjack I'm ashamed to say I haven't done much engine maintenance which is why I plan to put any money I can spare into that. The car was previously my dad's and he got it when it had less than 100,000 miles I believe. The miles are both highway and country roads (lots of potholes) so I will be addressing the suspension too.

Pre vanos FTW baby! J/K, don't want to start a firestorm, I'm sure dedicated maintenance will get any E39 that far.
Congrats!

She's a '98 540i with a sport package, and I can still get going quickly enough.

I still need to confirm the build date to figure out if mine's pre-vanos, it most likely is though.

Now that deserves props! I wish I could say I bought mine new, but I'm essentially the 2nd owner.

Congrats on the fantastic milestone. Just curious - I have an i6 just about 140k miles on it..and starting to get to some resistance going into 1st and a ever so slight grind going into 2nd..have you or your father replaced the clutch and if so at what miles? I'm going to replace the shifter bushing to see if that helps otherwise it might be time for clutch/bearing replacement..

I drive mine hard once in a while, but steady cruising is my predominant driving style. I will say though that I am an offensive driver, I get the hell outta the way quick

The clutch has been replaced about 30,000 miles ago. I believe the original clutch lasted a very long time, but the 1st owner may have replaced it.

Outstanding

I used to post here all the time when I first bought my car, but unfortunately I've been super busy as of late and just haven't been able to keep up. This piece of awesomeness is my daily driver, and I took this pic on my way to Vegas last weekend. I took the pic for the temperature, but note the mileage as well..

Yeah, I had to bang some knuckles under the hood, and a few other places when I first bought it, but since completing most of the required maintenance as outlined on this site, I've spent very little time on doing anything other than DRIVING How much driving, you may ask? Well, I live in San Diego, and this pic was shot about six months ago at The Loch Raven Reservoir... Google it...
