Pre Purchase Inspection

I wasn’t in the market but a local deal has me looking to jump back into the M family. Sold my 2005 M3 4 years back and have missed it ever since. Local Chevy dealer took a 2010 M6 SMG with 38k miles in on a trade for a new vette and they’ve been sitting on it for a couple months with no serious inquiries and will likely have to dump it via auction. 2 owner car. CA lease and then the IL owner that traded it in. Carfax showed regular maintenance and battery/battery cable replacement. Negotiated them to $40,700 which appears to be a decent price. Test drove it this week and I as pulled back into the lot I heard a clunk in the rear as I parked which after reading up appears to be a rear diff issue? Planning on having a pre-purchase inspection done by a 3rd party this week. What issues would make you walk from the deal if he finds them?

$190 inspection is complete
-rear tires ok but will need to be replaced soon
-recommends new battery
-8 codes showed up but most appear to be electrical due to weak battery
-needs 6 software updates
-1 tire pressure monitor is bad
-only shows 1 bmw service. 38k miles so it should be on the 2nd 15k service right now
-slight oil leak in rear dif and oil needs to be changed
-2 decent oil leaks from drain plug and from somewhere else in the engine. Can't track it down without starting to take things apart

Car is priced at $41k right now. Walk or ask for most/all to be taken care of first?

There is quite a lot wrong with that car. Sounds like it has been poorly maintained and repairs have been neglected. Maybe the previous owner traded it in because he knew it had these problems?

I would 100% run away. These cars are very, very expensive to maintain. Find a clean one with a warranty. That way you can enjoy it without having to worry. I just sold my 08 M6 (had it for 2.5 years and 30,000 miles) and after having mine for a year after the factory warranty ended there is no way I will ever own another M without a warranty!

Good luck!
