Rubbing on 19's. Mostly on the driver side. Ideas?
'08 335i e90 sedan
19x8.5 ET30 with 235/35/19 on the fronts 19x10 ET22 265/30/19 on the rears I got aligned and that solved the rear rubbing issue. Went from -1.9 to -2.5 and now the rear hardly rubs unless I hit a huge bump and only hits the inner fender lining. The front went from -0.7 to -1.1 camber. The rubbing still happens on hard turns and huge bumps. Mainly the front driver side. I'm just curious what is it rubbing on. The fender or the inner fender lining? I did notice one of the lining screws is scrapped out, so that's probably what's marking up my tire? I'm maxed out front camber but I also want to lower it another 1/2" but seeing that I rub maybe it's unwise? I'm on KW v1. My toe is 0.12 in the front. Will adjusting the toe solve this problem? If so to what degree should I aim for. Thanks for any help in advance. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not even that low so I want to go lower if I can once I solve this rubbing issue in the front

Outta curiosity, noting a run/rash of issues with lowered rides this weekend, what's your ride height as measured from the top of the fender wheel arch to the bottom of the rim, all wheels? |

Then it's not going to work without having issues.

I had the same issue on that size front wheel (19x8.5 ET30 on 235/35R19 PSS). It should be rubbing on a protrusion of the inner fender liner where it meets the fender edge. Lowering it can help if you also adjust the camber further.

I think so too since the area is a little mangled. Swapping to a 225/35/19 and going to see if that helps and go from there. I'm max out camber in the front, so that sucks for me.

Really your offset is the issue, but there's not much to be done about that without replacing wheels. 225/35R19 would work or, and this is likely risky, you could try 265/30R19. I'm not sure how the width / height ratio impacts where the scrub is occuring, though.

I'm stuck with my front offset, I know. Off to the tire shop. At least I know I'm not rubbing on the fender at least. 265/30, you mean 225/30? lol. I'm going with 225/35/19 and then im off to the performance shop for them to inspect it and possibly lower it more if this fixes the issue. thanks

265/30 would be about a quarter-inch smaller in overall diameter than the 235/35. Never seen it done, but a (tiny) portion of the math works.

Further lowering will increase the negative camber...MIGHT get the tires away from the top of the fender (you need more advice here, as there is always tire rebound to consider)...but the more negative camber you have with 19"...the WORSE they will wear on the inside shoulder. Much shorter tire life as they wear out on the inside shoulders into the steel belts before you know it. You must have a lot of money.

Thanks. I'm aware of negative camber effects on a tire. However, I solved the solution going to a lower size tire, 225/35/19 and no more rubbing issues at all. FYI, the marks on the tire is from the inner lining from fender to bumper. It was rubbing on that, not the fender. My fenders are rolled, yes. I had an "expert" performance roll the fenders along with my kw v1 installation and proper lowering height on my OEM 18" rims. But I had to buy the rims/tires from wheeldude. I took in trust that I would get the right sizes so I can install the new 19" rims on and see if it settles the same.
The simple tire size downgrade worked like a charm. When I wanted to go lower, I only meant by 5-10mm more. The rebound on the suspension is not rubbing at all, ONLY on huge bumps. |
