X5 battery replaced - wipers, central locking and interior lights not working
I have recently bought a 2002 BMW X5 E53 3.0i.
I had a couple of BMW's before and I loved them all. But this one, I really, really like. The way it drives, it looks, it smells...ok, I'll stop... I was overseas for slightly more than a month. When I came back the battery was flat. I changed it myself in the boot, after reading posts on how to do it. Thanks all. Now: 1. The battery is the proper spec one, though not the $750 BMW Sydney wanted for the installation+programming. The installation went fine in front of the house. 2. Car starts and runs beautifully. 3. The wipers, central locking and interior lights are not working. The boot lid is the only one where the key remote works. I have checked the fuses with a circuit tester. Some of them have power (light the tester), some don't. I have taken out one of the ones that didn't light the tester, and they are OK. Also checked some with a multimeter for a continuity test. The fuse was not blown. I must mention that in the last 2 days I have jumped the car (with the old original BMW battery still in the boot). The wipers, central locking and interior lights were not working. However, first time I came home after the 1 month away, I THINK (cant be sure, was very jet lagged but happy to see the car) I have opened the car with the key remote but the car didn't start so I jumped it from the other car. Now I can unlock the car with the key manually only. I was browsing through the posts, and it may well be that the info is available in older posts, but I would really appreciate if you could help guiding me to a possible cause for these malfunctions. Many thanks. |
